414 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Greg_R
13K budget

Room size is 200 sq ft w/ 18 ft ceilings (loft style apt)

Use is 70% dj'ing/audio & 30% (dvds,video)

I will be spinning bass heavy tracks (drum & bass and hip hop)

6 months before I buy everything

This is what I've come up w/ so far. I'd appreciate feedback:

Onix Rockets 750 fronts, Bigfoot 200 Center, and 250MKII rears

$2,800 (maybe cheaper when 1ks come out)

Onix Emotiva DMC-1 SSP and MPS-1 Amplifier Combo (Emo Twins)

$4,000

SVS PB12 Plus Sub

$1,200

Sony HS51 front projector

$3,000

Momitsu v880n DVD Player

$260 (cheap and does wireless so I can stream from my comp)

Screen

$1,000 (Not sure yet, need advice, wanna prob go 100")

Misc (Wiring, Records/DVDs to get started)

$700

That come out to about 13K...I have a separate dj equip budget (turntables, mixer, monitors) and Furniture for all equip so those arent issues.

Thoughts?

I look forward to hearing from people....

Don't cross-post.
I like your choice of the Sony HS51. I saw it at CEDIA and it looked like a major step up from my HS10. I don't know anything about the amplification you're using, but assume its pretty good stuff for the price you're paying. My suggestion would be to upgrade the DVD player to one with superior sound quality. You're system will only sound as good as the source.

I have a Cary Cinema DVD 6 which sounds great with music and movies, but got a great deal. If I had it to buy retail, I'd probably go with one of the new Denon universal players with video uprezzing like the 3910. Just a suggestion.
HTCrazy: thanks for the feedback...will consider a better DVD Player...do you know off hand how much the Denon 3910 is?

DMF: What do you mean by Cross-post?
That means posting the same question in different sections. Considered bad etiquette.
Escobar, I'm not sure, but there's lots of discussion about it in the DVD forum. Good luck!

Yes, but he'll be using the digital outputs from the player (which will be fine). The video quality of this unit (when using DVI) is good. One thing to check would be if you can use the digital output of the Momitsu for streaming audio (or does it force you to use the low quality analog outputs).

If the dj'ing is going to be in your home, then the speakers will be great. If you plan on doing gigs in larger venues (>7k cu.ft) then you may want to consider larger horn-based pro audio designs.
