12 or 14 awg?


as stated, 8ohm speakers, 60 watt per channel amp, 80-100 feet runs to multiple sets of inceiling speakers?

Yes, size-wise, the electrons in your copper wires really don't care whether there's 14 or 12 awg of "track". Either is plenty for them to run on.

can i get away with using 16awg for my 80-100 foot runs?


the chart says no but i heard that 16awg is still more then most installers use.


please advise.

I would use 12awg for that long.

Keep in mind that this is just for background music, so you aren't going to be pushing large amounts of power anyway. Save your money and put it towards something else that will make a noticable difference. Even 16 gauge will be more than enough for the longer runs.

Or split the difference and go with 14 awg. Better to be safe than sorry later IMHO.
