Too bad, I thought Richmond might be in this wave. Not sure I'd go back to D*, but it would be nice to have the option.
WTF???

Green Bay - #69

Portland ME - #74

Madison WI - #85

and

Reno NV - #112

I guess this means there is absolutely no pattern of HD locals rollout.

Can anyone find any commonalities between these cities? Or is D* just throwing darts.

Possible explanations

1) Local uplink facilities on line

2) Retransmission agreements in place

3) Transponder activation and it's spot beam components

4) Subscriber demand

5) Competative concerns

6) Installation subcontractor availabilty

7) Equipment availbility

8) Darts

It could be part of the deals they cut with larger station owners who want to accelerate the pace that their smaller stations get added. Or it could possibly be part of their plan to upgrade to MPEG4 and markets are given preference based on trying to get spotbeam coverage for the whole country.

Or it could be that someone at Direct was blindfolded, spun around by two people, told to throw darts at a map of the US and bam, the next set of cities to rec hd locals. All that I can say to some of those cities on the list is, Waaaaaaaaa!
Didn't someone here say they wouldn't start launching these until the fall, probably late fall? 3rd quarter starts July, I can't imagine they would wait longer than august to start

According to rumors, these 14 are the last group for the year.

If so, they have no shot of hitting the percentage of coverage estimates they announced during their conference call. They have to add the top 69 markets to reach that goal.
In addition to the 20 Markets that are already up, D* should be adding another 30 by Q3

Personally, not really. No -4 DVR means no upgrade for me. Not to mention I have a total of 6 HD recievers (3 currently inactive, gotta love ebay) which would cost me $600 to upgrade. I'd do better going to cable.
