Well, if you were shopping for speakers at this price point what would you do and why?

That's for a pair for two channel listening.

Stupidest thread of the day? Anyone?

What goes through the thought process here? Lets start another useless thread that will atract nothing but people listening their favorite speakers and then bitching at one another about why their choice is better until eventually the thread is closed by a moderator. Bravo! If this thread were even half-way serious there would be a lot more useful information provided.
Thanks for the reply.

You seem like a swell fella.

I guess after your caustic post no one will reply and I'll need go to another board.

spend 10k on speakers 4k on amps/preamps and 1k on room treatments?

I suggest you read both of these threads and then start auditioning for yourself... also, any reason you're not interested in 2.1?

Well, based off the total lack of information and effort placed into your original post it did not seem like your post was sincere in any way. You listened nothing about room size, music preferences, associated electronics, etc or any other important factor when helping to make a realistic recommendation.

Actually if you spent a little time here you would see that I am indeed quite helpful to people.

Thank you Chu. I very much appreciate that.

I just love the indecent proposal link.

I agree, cool links!

The standing waves link reminds me of Alvin Lucier stuff. I think some of it is, well, I don't know the word... but I did think "I am sitting in a room" was pretty cool.

I have a good idea of what I want but before I commit to anything I wanted to get feedback from people without potentially leading them in any direction.

Thanks for the post, I will review the threads.

I have considered 2.1 in the past, I think I'll throw that into the mix again, thanks.

I have amps and a source already so I am just concerned with speakers.

Room treatments are a thought but I really am not sure what to do given the room layout.

thanks again

I would make sure that the rest of the budget outside that were intelligently spent, heavily on the room itself. Beyond that, I'd go out and listen to speakers.
Go for one of these line arrays:
alexandrite or accuarray with these or these woofers and these tweeters

I can hardly imagine any speaker in the world beating those. Certainly not anything close to the price they sell for.

I would seriously consider a listen to Vandersteen 5A's

Yeah. When you CAN do business with them. Maybe those speakers will be available by 2010.

If his budget is $15k why would he go for those instead of selah arrays?
I'm not advocating them, just throwing out options.

Because you could spend a lot more money and get worse speakers.

The point is to audition, and audition WIDELY in both types, brands, and priceranges of speakers. And pick what's right for you.

There really isn't anything an internet forum can do to help you with that.
If I had to buy without doing any further listening I'd probably pick a pair of B&W802d.

That would be a little under your budget, so I'd use the balance to buy a bunch more CD's
