$1500 budget - Dual Hsu or ??

New dedicated HT build out, trying to decide on subwoofers. Planning on two subs with budget of about $1500 for both. After reading/lurking, currently narrowed down to Hsu ULS15 vs VTF-3 MK5. Looking for any other recommendations, or input on which Hsu to do. Speakers will be Revel M106 all around in a 5.2.4 Atmos configuration. Thinking about doing miniDSP and MSO as well.

Additional question - if I have front firing subs in front left and right rear corner, does it matter if the subs face along the long wall or short wall as long as both are similarly positioned?

The direction the sub/s is firing do not matter, only it's location within your room.

I would decide what your ultimate goal is so you have the space/positioning for subs and dont feel the need for upgrade. most are happy with 18's...at least 1 at 1st.

Well I am glad, I was able to help with the direction of the driver from the Sub/s. I cannot help you with your HSU decision, since I never try them personally. Owning a couple SVS PB13. But hear good things about HSU, in this forum. Not to mention, I am looking to replace my current subs, with a couple 18" subs mention in the previous post by @torii.
