Just got a Pannasonic E55S and was trying to copy a PPV Lbx movie from my Dish 508 hard drive to a DVD. The movie (Paycheck) that I'd recorded from Dish PPV in Letterbox had filled my 16:9 screen perfectly before but now, since I've hooked my E55 up, it plays like a 2.35:1 movie. In other words, it filles out to the sides but has fairly wide black bands top & bot. The PQ looks good and not distorted but it no longer fills out my 16:9 screen correctly. The DVD-r I made plays the same way.
The E55 is set for a 16:9 tv as is the Dish 508. I've tried setting the E55 progressive scan both on & off but the only difference that makes, is the PQ degrades a little when I turn it on. I assume that's because my HDTV is doing a better job at converting to 480p.
