This may be an old question, but I couldn't find the answer.

We all know that 16x9 or anamorphic DVD's have a picture that is optimized for a widescreen. And that when this picture is played from a normal (yet properly set-up) set top DVD player to a normal 4:3 TV, some of the lines are dropped to retain the 16:9 aspect of the picture. This is because TV's are low resolution. So, on a pj that is high resolution, and 4:3, does it still drop those lines? Even 800x600 would still be able to display all the original 16x9 lines (480) and add the "black bars" to make is 4:3, right? Right?

I'm sure the answer is simple, but I wanted to know for sure.
