When we record a true HD program , does the HD recorder (JVC,Mits) also records in 16X9 ?

They record the bitstream that comes from the broadcast, and regurgitate them to be converted to display by the same thing that you'd used to decode them to watch the broadcast in realtime (except for the JVC, which can decode recordings and output the HD analog itself, with some restrictions for copy-protected content). Playback of recordings should be indistinguishable from watching the original broadcast. (Well, if you used the JVC's analog outputs for playback, there could be some difference between the quality of its decoding and your STB's or internal tuner's).


The JVC will also allow you to watch downconversions of HD recordings through its S-video and composite analog outputs. If you had an STB with FireWire HD output and no DTV monitor yet, you could buy the JVC and use it to start archiving HD and watch the tapes in analog until you bought a monitor (which would be strange, but possible :)).
