I am going to be doing a lot of moving around within the next year (last semester of college, than off to med school), so I have decided to sell my home theater system. All I am keeping is my XBox 360 and my TV. I do like the surround sound my system provided, so I am looking for a headset that has Dolby 5.1 and can be used when I watch TV as well.

I have found the Turtle Beach x4 on Amazon for $170. I like that it is wireless and 5.1, but it uses analog connections for the TV. Is there any headset (same price) that uses a digital connection for both watching TV and playing XBox, or is the Turtle Beach the best one at that price point? (I would prefer the wireless, but if there is a similarly priced headphone that is wired, but offers a significant improvement in sound quality, I would go for it.)

lol, epic indeed. The astro's really seem to be the way to go, but it's just too much for me at the moment. Maybe I should just wait until the astro's have a price drop.

I may not understand your issue with the X4, but it appears to have both digital and analog output, so you can pass-through signals to the TV or your home theater receiver without fiddling with wires.

It uses analog for television use, resulting in them working just like any stereo headphones. I was hoping for headphones that can be used as 5.1 for television use as well, such as if I were to watch a hi-def movie.

Ahhh, so you want something with multiple digital inputs. I think the Astro mixamp has both a optical and a coaxial digital input, so that may be what you're after. Like someone else mentioned though, couldn't you just an optical splitter (2 X 1)? Both your xbox and DVR (or other source) could then feed the headset.
