17mm mdf for minimarty subwoofer?

i am building a custom minimarty subwoofer, i can get good quality 17mm mdf in my place, will that have any adverse effect? can i do the build with 17mm?

As long as you brace it enough, I don't see why not. Just understand that you'll have to brace more than you would with thicker MDF. You might also want to do three layers for the front baffle instead of two.

tic tac toe style bracing would be enough? for just 2mm difference is 3 layers of baffle required?

I've heard the recommended bracing spacing for 19mm MDF is no more than 250mm unbraced. If you drop that to maybe 200-225mm I'm sure you'd be fine, and you can brace it however you want.

As for the triple baffle, it's probably overkill, but a lot of us build our boxes with overkill bracing anyway. Two layers would probably be fine as long as the rest of the box is properly braced.

sorry, another noob question. for every 225mm i have to brace ,right? how is that measured? vertically or horizontally, do you have any simple bracing photos or drawings?

I took it as a measurement in any direction. If you pick any point on the box, it should be no more than 225/2=112.5mm away from the nearest brace.

The VBSS thread has some decent simple bracing pics.
