18' Bedroom - Opnion On Size

720 Views 6 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  mastacow53
Our bedroom in our new house is 18' long. Currently, we have a 32" tube TV at a far corner. Our plan is to mount a LCD on the wall.

I'm estimating our heads will be about 16' from the screen when sitting up in bed. We only watch TV in bed at night from 8:30-9:00 to about 10:00-10:30 - just some HGTV, Law and Order, or a DVD on occasion.

I've been thinking of getting a 40"-42" 720p LCD. The vertical size is slightly taller than the 32" tube. Maybe a 46" (or 50" plasma), but why overkill for an hour or two a night.

Opinions on size ??

Thanks,

The 42" should fit your needs. A 50" would be nice, but as you said it would be overkill.
18' is very far away, but I guess 50" might be overkill for a bedroom TV. I'd say the bigger the better, though.

I would have to seriously agree here that is a large seating or should I say sleeping distance from the set. Bigger in this case may be a heck of alot better even if it is slightly over kill I would still think that you would want to enjoy watching tv from bed not straining to see it just my $.02 I also have terrible eye sight...lol
I would look at a 52:. Especially if you are watching in the dark which seems to be the case. This bedroom seems large and a 52" in not going to overpower the room IMO. I have a 42" plasma at a distance of 10' in my bedroom and it is a nice size. That being said I am going to a 46" Samsung soon.
I have almost the same length bedroom as yours (about 18 feet) and have 42 inch LCD which feels little small to me. I'll be going 52 inch when the price is right.
I agree with 52".

I sit 11.5' from my 46" and it's perfect.

42" would be too small from 18'.
