Please, I need a help with my 20 months old Plasma has been sitting on the shelf since last 6 months.

It was making a sound from the speakers like wrorring sound (not big but noticable). Then little pop and TV went dead.

This TV does trun on, you can hear the little pop when it turns on as it should. Then may be 2-3 second it turns off with a little pop again and then RED light blinks (comes on) 12 times then stops and then red light blinks again.

In my reading this forum, i see that this site does have a great line of experts and good help. As i came across in my reading forum, it could be because of high valtage or DG board, but i am lost and confused on what to do.

Since i just lost my job, i have all the time to give this TV a try to get it going with a help of all you experts. I already opened up the back panel but do not have a serivce manual or guide, please help me fix this plasma and help me to save $$$ in this bad economic situation i am in because Tech said that he charges 200 just for checking.

im not going to flame but

getting the warranty on the tv would be the solution to your problem

bring it back to the store and they change it no questions asked

if u dont have the warranty why didnt u bring it back to the store after it died u said its been sitting in your house dead for 6 months

i have the same tv if u opened up the back panel the first thing u should do is probably smell it for something burned after u open it and it closes

if u can smell something abnormal then at least u know what is broken..

its a start

I appreciate your suggetion, i already have done that, unfortunatly it has been 6 months, so it is gone even if it existed. I do beat myself up on not getting the extended warranty, but you can not go back.

If you do have a service manual, or can help please do so. Again i am open for all and wish i can change the past.

I have an update ...I actually just bought another set from ebay that is the same TV for parts, so if someone can tell me what to change and look for it would be a great start.

I will be getting this another TV next saturday, so i want to gear up on what i need to do and look for. As listed above, the TV turns on as it should and stays on (no pic or sound) and after for 2-3 seconds it trun off and then blinks 12 times or RED light comes on 12 times.

Was buying a broken tv and paying for shipping really that much cheaper than a service call? Also, not trying to be negative or anything but...how do you know that the non-working tv you bought even has the correct circuit boards you need in working condition? Not to mention trying to install it if you haven't done such before...just hope you don't end up with 2 dead tv's.

yes it cost 105 and located 50 miles from my location so will just go and pick it up, in the posting of the other TV says that the tv powers on, but no sound or image, so as long as it stays on i can use the replacement boards to fix my problem, at least hoping that i could.

I really hope it works out for you and your experience may help others here in the future. There are plenty of members here who are knowledgeable about such things, but most won't post detailed instructions on how to repair your plasma on the internet for obvious reasons...mostly because their knowledge earns their paycheck. (and it really isn't as simple as changing the power supply on your home pc for example)

The eBay auction actually states "The TV powers on the power LED flashes but there is no other activity. No picture no sound."

The seller does not list the number of blinks, but does indicate that the screen is cracked. In my limited experience, the Panasonic cracked screen TVs I have encountered still had a solid LED when powering up, indicating that all the boards were still OK.

And i agree hiring a tech makes no sense! Paid $440 to fix something on my sony big screen which i just sold $350 this summer. Im writing off repairman untill further notice. If it doesnt work out for ya i can help score a new 42 inch pretty easy $500 range.

I am praying and will keep you posted, but can you please explain what do you mean by "scoring a new 42" screen for 500"?

Tom,

I asked this question to the seller long way back and he did not answer, but he checked and said that the TV turns off after couple of seconds and blinks 10 times.

Oh well it did not turn out the way i had expected. The game plan was to get another same TV to replace parts and it turn out that the replacement TV had a same defects as my TV. So now i can use some help to pinpoint the problem so i can order the parts.

After i opened the back panel for the inspection, it seems every board is either have a push pin/plug connection (no soldering of wire required) and all boards are simply screwed to the back panel. So if i can pinpoint the problem and find the right replacement board with a help of readers, my TV can be fixed.

Followings are my findings…

1. As soon as i plug the power cord to the wall, 1st i hear a little click, that means the TV senses the power.

2. Then i press the power button in the front and i hear TV turns on and both fan are on. Meaning the power board is not the problem (at least I am hoping$$$). Well, once the power is on, in the back of the TV i see a little green led light that comes on on the board (could that be SC board?) located on the little left side from the center of the TV and then i also see a red led light comes on on the board that is located little below right in the middle (guessing that is the DT/DG board!!).

3. Then 3-5 seconds later i hear very little click and then everything turns off by iteself and then in the front red led flashes or red light comes on 12 times.

4. Some of the thread i read suggested the replacement of PA board or DG board, but before i order the parts i like to confirm.

Wondering if anyone might ran into this situation and care to help me to fix this plasma?

The first thing you need to do is to correctly diagnose the number of blinks you have. On your model, it is the number of "off" blinks that are counted, NOT the number of lit "on" blinks.

Panasonic provides a service training guide for your model here .

In that document, pages 74-75 explains the blinks.

Depending on the correct number of blinks, it appears it may be the fans that are causing the problem.

i think there are a lot of good suggestions on this thread for you. i can add two things--

if you bought the tv with a major credit card, it is possible they will cover the repair. many cards double the manufacturer warranty.

if you start repairing yourself, check the web--many people post links to service manuals and there are vendors that sell on-line manuals.

I did buy this with credit card, i will give them a call, but since this tv has been on the shelf for a long time it passed 24 months.

I looked into the forum, did not get any luck with the manual but Tom posted a link that i saved to my computer, seems it covers what i need.

Thanks for your suggetions.
