I have my pc hooked up to my surround sound via hdmi from my radeon 5850. I have it set to 7.1 surround sound in realtek audio manager and the test plays correctly. When I play anything in iTunes, the sound only comes out of the front left and right. The reciever says PCM Multichannel. Any ideas?

You are only playing 2 channel audio. There are a few ways you can have all speakers playing audio.

1. Play something multichannel like DTS, DD, DTS-HD MA, DD TrueHD, 5.1 AAC, 5.1 Flac, etc

2. Set the decoder/filter to up mix to multichannel (I don't believe iTunes is capable of that)

3. Your receiver may or may not be able to up mix 2 channel into multichannel audio (check the manual for something like 'music enhancer 5 ch')

My Denon has a mode called 5 channel stero for 2 channel stereo sources. See if your receiver has something similar.

You aren't going to get "surround sound" with a 2 channel source otherwise.

Try setting your sound card to 2 channel. Then your reciever should be able to matrix the 2 channel source to all the speakers.
