2-12's vs 1-15 or should I build my own?

Remodeling and building a multi-purpose media room, shown below. About 3000 cu ft, and an additional 1000 cu ft in the hall on the right. This room will likely have a hard floor, with area rugs, and possibly a few wall treatments, but nothing too crazy.

I'll be using the media aspects of the room 80+% for movies, and my wife and I are not audiophiles, but want to have a theater room that sounds solid, but don't need 'the best', 'the most', 'killer'... let's just call it more like B+, maybe A-.

I have a theater consultant that recommended dual subs, and thought I might get away with a pair of 10's. This article/'calculator' seems to support that sizing: https://www.aperionaudio.com/blogs/aperion-audio-blog/how-to-choose-a-subwoofer

In talking with SVS and HSU, they recommend a single PB3000 or VTF3-MK5, over two PB2000's or VTF2-MK5's, citing ability to add another later. So that is a big jump from my initial thoughts of dual 10's.

For my needs, would going to the 15"/13" drivers be overkill (when doubled), whereas I could just go with two of the PB2000's or VTF2-MK5's?

I read one of the stickies, and was intrigued by comment on the Dayton Subwoofer with Cabinet Kit. I'd be building a bench about 20-22" deep at the front of the room... could I conceal one or two of these in a cabinet section with just a cloth front, or am I asking for problems acoustically? Doing the remodel myself, the last thing I need is additional work, but having them hidden away could be a big bonus (and therefore no finishing required).

Edit: Would like to keep in the $750-$1100 range in the near term.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for your thoughts.
The grading system is subjective. While I am at a single JTR Captivator 4000ULF with 4000W driving 2 18" drivers, I think I am at a A... I will be at A+ when I get my second 4000ULF... :D

The PB3000 is $300 over your budget. The Hsu VTF3-MK5 gets recommended a lot because it is a 15" sub with tremendous output @ < $900.
Yep, agreed. OK with grade B!
Really -- no one has any thoughts on this? I guess the subject is just so beat to death.

I would forego the 12" subs just because you are looking at about 4000 cu ft. Starting at a 15" and working towards a second provides a better upgrade path.

The Hsu VTF-3 MK5 is a great choice at under $900. You would have to go up to $1300 to get noticeable improvement.
Ok, thanks for your thoughts. I think between this and some other threads, I've become convinced the single 15" is the best initial path. Now I need to investigate about if I'd try a long-term solution of a custom speaker box that might fit better in the room or closet, and if so, then an interim solution might be best.

Does a room tend to react similarly, based on position of subwoofer, regardless of which subwoofer is used? I'm asking if position alone affects the position of relative good/poor spots in the room with a single subwoofer -or- if upon upgrading a subwoofer, someone may experience different good/bad spots (i.e. not just an intensity change)?

Build your own but do an IB setup not a box in the room. Awesome sound and no big box in the room!

I would use your utility room and build an infinity baffle sub. You can use 2 opposed 18” ib subs and an amp. You will be into it for less than $1k and smash anything else for a similar price!

I did 4 18” subs in 2 pairs. I got this setup used and have less than $1500 into it. I am certain I would have to spend $5+ if I wanted to match this with premade subs.

Here’s the subs https://ficaraudio.com/product/ib3-series-ib318-v2/
