Does anyone else think the AVS Screens forum should be split into 2 forums:


- DYI Screens

- Manufactured Screens


Personally I find it very frusterating and time consuming to have to sort through all the DIY posts to find information on manufactured screens. I imagine those members looking for DIY information must feel the same way about the manufactured screen posts.


What does everyone else think?

I'm glad that I am not alone in feeling overwhelmed in general by the post volume on AVS. Any remedies, including this very elegant solution, are appreciated by me!

I don't think this idea is necessarily good... it will cause a lot of increased traffic and work for the moderators. There are lots of general questions (lighting, positioning, theory, etc) that apply to both types of screens and would probably have people posting in both categories.... or getting the "try the other forum" reply somewhere along the thread. In addition, threads like that usually start in one "camp" but go down both and / or other "camp" which are usually of great use to both camps and would be tough to "stop" / police.

You can't be all things to all people, but I still greatly favor splitting up the forum.

Those kinds of questions generally still depend on the screen material being considered (though you can speak of them in generic terms). I see no problem with discussing that sort of thing in either sub-forum. I think it may be a bit better, because the discussion will have a screen type context.


There is always the basic question "Should I go the DIY screen route or not?", and I think that would be best answered in the DIY screen forum. Once a user gets into the Manufactured Screen Forum, the question is typically "Which one for my situation with a $X budget?"


At the end of the day I think creating sub-forums for DIY and Manufactured will solve more issues than it creates.

But when is a manufactured screen, a "manufactured" screen... the whole thing has to be "manufactured" or what about just the screen material only. Anyways, I think a similar request was made a while back that non-X1 guys wanted to "root out" the X1 posting into their own forum because there was some many X1 posts... and others (projectors types) wanted their own forum... and also X1 was hard to search on so X1 guys also thought it was a good idea. It seems every one wants their own "little forum". I am sure the "forum gods" will find an appropriate solution.
