I am running:

Generic AMD 3600

Nvidia 9500GT

Creative "Live" card with a S/pdif out with the Creative bundled software.

Archsoft Total Media 3.01

LG Blu-ray H20L

The S/PDIF is functional in 2 channel only and can't figure out a fix. Please help

Does this issue only occur on audio tracks using TrueHD/DTS-MA tracks.

I think what you need to do is enable audio mixer in the audio settings and apply either DTS or AC3 mixing.

This fixed it for me.

I use the DTS mixing because it re-encodes the audio to a higher bitrate track than AC3 mixing.

Also, there is a TMT 3.0.140 patch out.

In Archsoft, it only works in 2-channel, on all sources...

Interestingly, when I set S/pdif - it goes silent! The 5-channel setting omits the vocals, which I guess is the center channel.. I can't win!

Yes, I do set S/PDIF in Creative and it works. This is how I get sound to the receiver. However, it is only in 2-ch... When I set the Archsoft sound setting to S/PDIF there is no sound at all. When I set Archsoft to 5.1, I don't get a center channel and no vocals...nothing else works but 2-ch.

I am running XP home. In the sound properties, there is no setting for S/PDIF. However, there is an option called "1 digital output only" in advanced settings. I have it checked on and it does allow the S/PDIF to work, just not in 5.1.

My receiver is a Pioneer Elite 54TX. It has a "DIRECT in" which I believe should allow a 5.1 signal.

I am Dumbfounded!

UPDATE: When playing a .AVI file through Archsoft, s/pdif is now recognized, the only option, and seems to be working! Although, I don't know how information is in this file so it is difficult to really tell if it is really 5.1.

The primary problem now seems to be when playing Blu-ray movies from the player.

Should there be a separate sound cable connected from the LG Blu-ray player to the sound card?

This may seem like a dumb query, but which port are you using on the Sound Card and how is it hooked up? The Creative Live cards have five 1/8" jacks; are you using the green or the orange?

Have you run a 5.1 speaker test on the receiver itself to insure all 6 speakers are connected properly and getting a signal?

Under Sound and Audio devices, click on the Audio tab. What is the default sound playback device? What are the options it gives you to select?

Maybe this is similiar, I'm not sure.. but I have the Gigabyte 785 board using optical out to my receiver. When viewing any of the sound settings, anything related to sound test, speaker setup is all grayed out. When playing a DVD though I can verify Dolby Digital is coming out to the speakers and all 5.1 are working. Does the act of having the optical out connected limit the sound tests/settings you can configure because it somehow relies now on the receiver and its setup versus having the 3.5mm sound out straight to speakers?

SPDIF out has nothing to do with speakers; hence speaker setup will never be enabled. I'm not sure what you mean by 3.5mm sound. Are you talking about analog outs from the sound card? That is completely different from SPDIF. With SPDIF out the device/source is simply passing the audio as it is without any mods. The audio signal can be DD, DTS or anything else. In PCs, generally all audio chips pass through all (DVD) audio formats (DD/DD-EX/DTS/DTS-ES/5.1/6

Actually no it isn't any different on many of the creative cards. It uses mini plug for coaxial digital out which is exactly the same as spdif. Some also have the optical spdif some don't.

You are right I believe that speaker setting wont allow passthrough of the digital signal though.

I was experiencing the same problem as you this afternoon. Pissed me off so much, I got rid of my Blu Ray access on Netflix, but I added it back once I figured out how to get the S/PDIF working with my old 5.1 JVC receiver.

I'm now using PowerDVD9. From the Configure PowerDVD Settings, select the S/PDIF source.

Select S/PDIF from the drop down menu (this will be blank by default)

I'm using Windows7 RC1 (x86) and have the same LG BD Rom as you. My receiver is an old JVC RX 6018.
