I'm looking for a good 2 channel receiver for listening to music. It will primarily be my classical music CD collection I've ripped lossless in iTunes, playing from iTunes through an airport express base station. I'd like to keep the signal digital as long as possible, and use DACs in the receiver.

The only stereo receiver I've found with a toslink connection is the HK 3490, but I'm having trouble finding a source for Harman Kardon in eastern Canada, and just about every US online dealer I've found won't ship to Canada.

Are there any other good stereo receivers in that price point with a toslink connection? All the competitors I've checked so far only seem to have analog inputs on their stereo receivers.

Thanks,

hms

I think the reason most 2-channel equipment doesn't include a digital input is that most 2-channel users are on a search for the holy grail: the best stand alone DAC. In their opinion, no amp (by that I mean receiver or integrated amp) can have as good of a DAC as is available separately.

There have been reviews in the audio magazines of USB DACs, some of which seemed to get quite high ratings.
