2 channel receivers for $800-$1200?

Buddy of mine is looking for an "audiophile" grade 2 channel receiver in the $800-$1200 range. He's not interested in surround at all. Anybody have recommendations? Thanks.

Well, if video switching isn't an issue, that $800 to $1200 would be very well spent in a dedicated pre-amp + amp setup. Rotel and Arcam are well-known and in the price-range. I know the Rotel RC-1070, combined with a RB-1070 (2 x 130) does very well and is priced MSRP $1200.

It's my opinion, gained from my own experiences, that dedicated stereo equipment (integrated amp or pre-amp/amp systems) offer a quality of sound that would be hard to get out of a receiver unless you doubled the budget on the receiver.
I'm also interested in the same setup, as I recently acquired a pair of Studio 20 v3's for our office. While I could power them from our main room with a Russound multizone amp, I'd be willing to shell out the coin for a nice 2-channel setup. I've been looking at some of the Rotel gear as well as the Onix pre/pro tube setup (can't remember the model, but if you've seen it you know which one I'm talking about). NAD and Cambridge also come to mind, but I don't have any experience with a nice 2-channel setup so I'm also looking for suggestions and guidance.

The Outlaw RR-2150 has received outstanding reviews as well.
And a nice price, too. I'd probably use my Pioneer Elite 45a as a CD player (as it's not currently in use), but since it's an "office" system I might opt for a matching pre/pro and CD player combo (like the Onix or other).

Absolutely...Great choice I have owned alot of the Outlaw stuff and for the money it can't be beat. YMMV.

What CD player are you using with the Outlaw. It does look like a nice unit...

How about the B&K Reference 5 S2 pre-amp and the B&K reference 125.2 amp?
Unless they're used (which I'd prefer not to buy), the B&K are a bit out of the price range. I've got the Pio, whose audio performance is sublime, so I'm just looking for a 2-channel pre/pro or otherwise to complete a simple office system. Like I posted, if there's a really nice pre/pro and CD combo for the right price, I might jump on it. I'm still intrigued by the Onix setup, but I have to read up more on the gear and find out what their packages are. The Rotel gear is also really nice, and may be just what I'm looking for, but there are so many choices out there that I'd like to not limit myself to the gear that I know. The one thing about the Rotel that I don't like is the fact that you have to use the remote to turn it on. Otherwise, it looks like a winner. I also need to look closer at the Outlaw and the B&K.

Thanks for the info...I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm actively looking for the same thing as the OP.

How about this ? He'd have enough left over for a decent turntable or SACD player. I'm dead serious.
Thanks everyone for your input. My friend really liked the Rotel suggestion. Think he's going that route.
