Other than price, is there a reason not to may the first layer of walls out of 5/8" OSB on hat/channel then GG then 5/8" drywall? Where i am, the OSB is nearly the same price as 5/8" drywall. Our floors out here have to float due to expansive soils, so a stronger wall to hang speakers & columns from seems like a good idea, no?

takes a lot longer to work with and I always get splinters in my hands , I hate it, I only like to do on ceilings if there are plans to hang a coffered ceiling. I can see there may be some benefit for floating walls. Another thought is it is not an all or nothing proposition. You could put it in strategic locations where you want to hang a lot of weight.

I may just use it in strategic locations then.
