2 Receivers, Same Speakers?

873 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  stinkyjones
Although I have a decent grasp of home audio wiring basics, I was wondering if someone could offer me advice on how I can easily use 2 receivers to drive the same set of speakers.

I have an NAD T762 (not used for video, only used in 2 Channel), and a Marantz 2270.

I'd like to be able to use the speakers for both receivers and not have to manually swap the speaker connections.

I had assumed that i would easily be able to find a switchbox to connect the speakers to that would handle this task, but i must be googleing the wrong search terms, because i really can't find a device that will do this.

Looking through the NAD's manual, I noticed something with regard to using an external power amp and passing it through the NAD to power the front speakers. If true, would there be some way of hooking the outs on the Marantz up to the NAD and being able to select on the NAD which source (either internal or Marantz) to feed the speakers (connected to the NAD)? If so, can anyone assist me in accomplishing this?

Alternatively, is there some way of taking the outs of both devices and feeding them through some sort of RCA cable switcher, then running the output of that back through the NAD and on to the speakers?

Having said that, is it also possible to hook the analog outs of my NAD cd player to the Marantz and the digital coax to the NAD at the same time without causing any issues?

I'd love to be able to utilize both receivers--they are vastly different in terms of sound. However, if i can't accomplish this cleanly and efficiently, the wife will relegate the Marantz to the garage . . .

Regards,

Scott

Why not just us a standard A/B speaker selector switch, but wire it the other way around?

Put the speakers on the "input" and one amp on Speaker "A" and the other on Speaker "B".

Wow, do I feel stupid.

I guess I really overthought this. So completely obvious. Plus, a search on "speaker selector" nets a zillion hits. Thanks much.

What about the digital outs to one receiver and analog to the other? Would this cause a problem if one amp is always powered off while the other is on?
