my room is 12x19 closed(garage)see gallery, and is dedicated for movies...right now i get very good, right through your body base,at times you can feel the base;)

what will a second 20-39cs+do,will i feel the improvement???how noticeable???

also~

iv only got 2 choices where to place it,

1,opposite front corner.sides at the screen wall...

2,apposite corners,one front,one rear...

please let me hear from those who have or have heard 2 subs in one room...

I have 2 16-46 PC+ ... due to room constraints I cannot put them asymetrically as most will argue is best. Instead, I have them near the front right corner with one in front of the other. My room is something like 25x22x10. I run the subs about 2-3 dbs hot as I like the extra punch.

If you calibrate the subs properly you will undoubtly notice a difference. Frequency response should become flatter and you may remove some standing waves.

Hello :p

I used to own a Home Theater with 2 subwoofers. My room was/is 5m x 4m and i had the best results with one in each corner on the 4m side. I never got them to sound good with "in phase" so i switched it and worked like a charm. I tried only one but the bass was a killer with 2 for me.

cheers

The second sub is worth doing! It takes a little bit of time to optimize it for the best locations. There are potentially a number of good locations but the seating location (head location actually) would need to be known as well. I'll make some assumptions here but is this a rectangular room?

First of all, adding another 2-39cs unit will increase sound output level capability by 6 db, which is nothing to sneer at; you'll definitely hear improvements when playing demanding low bass material!

You could try locating the two subs in the front corners, but won't hurt trying one in a front corner and the other in a rear corner as well. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Other sonic benefits derived from utilizing multiple subs is the substantial increase of dynamic range and sound pressure levels capabilities, decrease of audible distortion components, and lessening of dynamic compression.

You have to be a bit careful when it comes to calibrating and integrating the subs with the rest of your system, but in not that difficult of a task.

Just take you time and if you haven't bought one yet, get a Rat Shack sound meter (analog readout) with which to take SPL measurements during the calibration process.

Adding more subs does cost more, so is something that must be seriously considered. Good luck on your quest!... :)

I have 5 subs in my new system. While it was designed for Distributed LFE, I am using my processor to send out LFE to the front 3 subs and L/R sub outs for the side subs. Nothing quite like being flat to 16Hz in every single channel!

Like Mr P. I also had 5 subs in my room. I now use two SVS Ultras in the front corners of the room. Myself and JesseS eq'ed the two SVS's so in my prime listening area I get a flat response. And yes I can feel the pounding in select bass transients. If I remember correctly, we measured 116 DB peaks in my prime listening area. In addition to Frank's comments about calibration, you may want to consider a cheap and effective EQ device like a Behringer Feedback Destroyer - remarkable device for really cheap $.

...ahem...so happens that I have one of 'em "FBD" units available for sale; it has never been used (really...I ain't lying!) though it was mounted on the equipment rack...

Mercury,

What exactly is that wood frame in the foreground of your HT's pic...the one with some brown cloth hanging from it? A column of sorts, perhaps?...

Ok, Let me try this again. I posted the wrong file. The first file was read only and is the info from Russ H's website.
www.home-theater-acoustics.com

I had it from a class I took years ago. It was named similar to the other file. Sorry, about that it was late last night.

I have dual subs - they definately help in making the bass more even sounding and enveloping. However, I found bass shakers to give the best physcial bass effect (and they're cheaper and smaller than adding multple subs).

I've got two subs complementing my already bassy klipsch kg4's and musically they're just a tad overpowering (so I have to tone it down a bit), but for HT, it adds quite a bit.

I've got one (10" Axiom) near the right main on the same angle - about 10 feet away ............. the second (10" PSB) is just by the left surround pointing directly at the side of the couch. It's about 5 feet away (ported in the front) - set about 7 with the crossover at minimum.

The front one fills the room while the second thunders into the side of the couch. It's pretty wicked. I watched 'The Day after tommorrow' last night and several of my pictures had to be straightened. I often turn the PSB down a bit, but it's just not the same.

Is it worth it overall? Well, as you know, bass is not directional, and placement is EVERYTHING. I have no regrets and am not convinced that a larger (more expensive) sub would have the same effect as my two ten inch subs.

I once heard it said that if the amp is the brain of the system, then the sub is the soul.............and I believe this wholeheartedly. Whatever your mains are capable of, a sub ads that much more. And from where I sit, two subs are better than one.

I'd love to try these bass shakers as I hear so much about them. However, I just do not see how they could push your chest in and out or move air past your head like good subs can and do. Anyone know of a place to demo bass shakers in the philly area?
