Didn't know if you guys were aware, McG is directing this film set to release in 2011. While he's not a favorite among videophiles, this film does have a decent set of writers including Bill Marsilii and Randall Wallace. So far no casting news other than The Rock will NOT be Nemo.

Here's a recent article where he mentions it (and Terminator 5):

McG: It's a bit of a departure from the Richard Fleischer movie, and much more in keeping with the spirit of the novel, as far as what Aronnax is up to and the becoming of Captain Nemo, and how the man became at war with war itself. So, there's a little bit more meat on the bone, in regard to the genesis of the Nemo character, than you're given in the 50's movie that Disney made. Also, it's a little more contemporary.

Sorry, but I'll stick with the Fleischer movie, which hopefully hits Blu Ray soon.

Is that the Disney versions with Kirk Douglass?

Yes. I've always liked the look of that movie.

You and me both. It would look good in HD and there is a chance they might take advantage of the remake and release it on BD.

While I doubt the studios would go a route that discourages double-dipping.. it would be neat (I think) to see a single BD release that included the original and the remake. Perhaps with scene comparisons, cast&crew cross interviews, etc? That would be a great way to introduce older films to a newer generation.
