I have the 55613, and like the picture much better with VM set to "off" on the user menu.

However, I am still seeing what looks like maybe a small amount of SVM. Isn't there a RANGE of VM available in the service menus of previous Mits RPTVs? If so, I just wonder if the user setting of "off" turns the SVM totally off, or just mostly off?

Anybody know anything about this?

Look for

SSH1

SHF1

PROV

LT1-1

I am not sure if these parameters are available on the 2004 models. Let us know if you find them.

If my memory serves me correctly, my Mits is running at

SSH1 - 2

SHF1 - 2

PROV - 2

LT1-1 - 1

I've been in the menu several times with our 55413 and have not noticed these settings, only sharpness. What menu are they under and how do you find them on your set? It seems there are only 2 codes to use for entry, 07 and 09, either one does not seem to have these parameters.

Anthony, it looks like no...which is unfortunate.

All you can do is turn off VSM and reduce sharpness to get rid of the ringing right now. This will soften your picture, but that's all we've got for now.

This is gonna turn me off a bit towards Mits. Ringing is BAD BAD BAD in my book. Most people don't notice the ringing and like the artifically sharp picture. But it is quite annoying for those of us who can spot the edge enhancement.

It gets noticeable at 65" viewing from 10'..

Thanks for the heads up though. If you have any idea how to fix the other problem I am having that'd be great. See "613 Netcommand Issues" thread. I cannot, for the life of me, figure it out.

What I see it as or define it as is:

Remember what those old ringers look like on phones and how they jiggle when they get hit? That's what ringing is, so I think..

I see it mostly in HARD whites ONLY when I watch DirecTV, they ring likke that and it's annoying if you're sitting 10' away, if I was sitting further away, it probably wouldn't be as noticeable. I first noticed it on Hogans Heroes. I've not seen it on my DVD or SD sources.

By the way, I only use Monster Cable (don't laugh at me) for my video connections.

***UPDATE***

Reports are that VSM off on user menu really isn't totally off.

The non-integrated sets (xx313 and xx413) have a service menu parameter VMLE. Default is 2, change to 0 for off. This is absent from the xx513 and xx613 (don't know about the 713 and 813).

For those interested and brave enough to physically remove the SVM circuitry inside the set, PM me.

Is there someplace to find out what does what in the service menu? I feel comfortable making my own adjustments on my TV and I have DVE to help but I need to know what setting does what. Any help?
