Background:

I work for a US consumer electronics chain,("wow") and while looking up pricing of the current panny models, I think I may have stumbled across some pricing for the new 8-series displays.

Pricing

SKU :: Model :: Description :: Price ::

8723125 :: TH-46PZ85U :: Panasonic 46" 1080P Plasma :: $2199.99

8723045 :: TH-50PX80U :: Panasonic 50" 720P Plasma :: $1699.99

8723232 :: TH-50PZ85U :: Panasonic 50" 1080P Plasma :: $2299.99

I'm not sure how accurate this is, I though the 80U was a 1080P Display, but I'm sharing. I dug, but could not find the pricing for 800 or the 850, perhaps they are coming out later? Not sure, but I'll keep looking.

And the 80U has nothing to do with 1080, look at their current line, PX is 720 and PZ is 1080. That does sound kinda fishy that it would only be $100 difference, once we get word on MSRP in the shop I can post as we can normally order far before the actual shipping date.

Only $100 diff. between the 46" 1080 and the 50" 1080? Seems kinda bizarre.

I have cost : The 46" is 18% cheaper than the 50". retail markup iz abt 500 bucks on the 46" .. 300 on the 50"

@ tor: My point was that the MSRP's don't make sense. Why would anybody in their right mind buy the 46", when $100 more gets you the 50"? Thats a no-brainer. The 46" ought to be $300 or $400 less than the 50" in order to move them off the shelf. I imagine that will happen quickly once they hit the stores and nobody is buying the 46's.

the 46 inch seems fishy. Kind of dumb with no 800/850 prices. Those are the ones i may look at instead of the 9gs. I feel spoiled

What happened to the 1080P 42" 46" 50" PZ80 Series? You would think that would be one of the first models out so Panny could advertise a really low price on Plasma TVs.

Electronics Depot is coming up with prices at Google Shopping if you search for model numbers.

You've mentioned this twice now, however I have not been able to find any info on their site, other than "coming soon" and a few specs that have been listed before...where am I not looking?

I am specifically interested in the actual dimensions (width in particular) for the 46PZ85 and 46PZ800.

Thx

When I search using google shopping I get the following:

42pz85 $1699

46pz85 $1999

50pz85 $2499

Searching for the 800 or 850 returns no hits.

I was going to type the same thing.....

Hope that's the case....Think that sounds pretty fair all things considered.

That will probably put the 50PZ800 at around $2,600 and the 50PZ850 at around $2,900....which would leave the 50PZ850 priced right around the 120HZ LCD's from Sammy and Sony.

I'm anxiously awaiting as I've basically decided I'll be getting one of these 2008 Panny's. Either the 50PZ85 or the 50PZ800.

same here. need to decide if the THX in the PZ800 is worth the extra $ over the PZ85, thats the only feature upgrade that i care about. Seems there are differing opinions about the THX.

On one side i think it may be a factory calibrated setting similar to say cinema mode only much better which may help you get your set just that much closer to ISF calibrated land and away from sell-this-baby-on-the-floor-torch-mode land. on the other hand is the opinion (like i think D-Nice pointed out) that it may just be another glorified preset that doesn't add much.

though i guess for someone who can afford ISF calib. or have the colorimeters, etc to do their own calib right it may not mean much but for most regular users who dont have those resources a preset that is while not perfect but at least a bit closer to "ideal caliberated" setting (which they can use with avia/dve to fine tune further) it may add more value...just my 2c.

When the sets first hit the stores they are usually MSR prices & not what Street Prices will be after they've been out for a while. I'm still hoping that the 50PZ85 will have a Street Price of under $2,000 & that the 50PZ80 will have a Street Price of $1,700 to $1,800

To me the 50PZ85 at $2,299.99 is no great deal when my neighbor paid $2,399.99 for a 50PZ700 in November of 2007.

And if there going to be asking $1,699.99 for a PX80 that seems way out of line & it should be more like $1,299.99 like the PX75 can be had for.

I agree. I'm probably going to wait a month or two for the street price to drop to around 2000....unless it just looks too good on those bb/cc display walls for me to wait some more (am already waiting too long since i have decided to forgo the 50pz700u...every day hurts a little

at that point (even at the MSR of 2299) the 24p, higher CR, newer gen panel, and extra hdmi over the 700u might justify my giving in...
