Thanks for the schedules. Tuned in yesterday at 2 pm ET just as Woods was wrapping up his 5-point closing lead from the am match. Some of the commentators seemed to imply there was TV coverage of the morning match...but that diidn't appear on any schedule I saw, so guess they meant DirecTV coverage. While Googling for a possible cable-TV schedule error, read that John Daly withdrew after the 1st round, citing a back problem. His golf coach also said John was in a "toxic" condition after a stomach-capping operation, tremendous loss of weight, and lack of sleep. He hit an 88 at the Buick Open. -- John

You could have watched every shot of the Woods, Harrington & Beem pairing online yesterday. You can watch other "marquee" groups right now.

^^^Wonder if (apparently) D*'s locking up am weekday broadcasts of the match, so it wasn't carried on TNT, will generate any controversy. Wasn't aware of the online coverage, although I've glanced at Road Runner-delivered snippets from other matches. Guess I'm not an uber-enough golf fan (per the now-locked other thread ), though, to watch on my computer screen. PQ just isn't adequate. Hope D* HD viewers enjoy the am matches. D* isn't realistically accessible at my mid-Manhattan building--already fed by TWC and RCN cable sources. -- John

The PGA is shown in HD on TNT. How is that exclusive to DirecTV?
Wonder why there has been no discussion of whether Tiger Woods is on steriods. The change in his physique resembles that of MLB players....maybe even more so, When Tiger started he was thin as a rail.

If you spent as much time in the gym as he does you could look like that too. He has been outspoken in favor of drug testing so I think he is clean.
99 per cent of commercials with a microphone begin with feedback, and Best Buy kept with the trend during its PGA HD commercial....step away from the mic a bit before speaking.

I thought the same thing when I first saw him earlier this year it was like seeing him in a whole new body and even my wife noticed
I thought CBS and NBC were bad but TNT takes the cake for number of commercial spots per golf swing shown, IMO. Gotta get the DVR involved but the Woods/Harrington drama is too good to delay!
tiger on steroids? don't see how that would help you much in golf. certainly wouldn't help you putting or short game. might help with your drives and long irons, but tiger has lost noticeable yardage on his drives since his knee reconstruction and usually doesn't even use a driver, just his 3 wood.
Tiger with a 4 stroke lead. Interesting to see Glover tied for second, can he do it twice in one year?

As said before, Tiger has spoken FOR testing. That would be kind of funny for someone on steroids or other enhancers to say that the PGA should be doing it. Also, he has been "bulking up" and working out for a few years now, I think he even did military boot camp type thing a few years ago to get in shape. I am a Tiger fan, but would fell that if he was doing anything he should be punished. If people dedicated themselves for 6 months to training only I think many people here would look like they were on steroids, even if it was natural. I thnk the S word is getting tossed around so much lately, because of Baseball which is a shame.

As far as coverage goes, I think Direct TV might of had the exclusive on AM matches. TNT had coverage from 2-8 both THursday and Friday. It looks like tomorrow there will be a full day of Golf to catch almost every player between TNT (11-2EST) and CBS (2-7EST).

Hopefully this weekend we will have some close scores on top to make for an interesting Sunday.

If history is an indication, not if Tiger leads on Saturday night.

As for steroids, I've thought of that, too. He might have used it to recover from his ACL injury quicker than he otherwise could (and since?). If he is using, Tiger being in favor of testing is no surprise, since if he were using HGH, there's no test for that drug. Also, some other drugs can be covered up if you know what you're doing.

Because he was 21 years old when he started and now he is a grown man?

And because he is tested for steroids pretty regularly on the PGA Tour.

Tiger is no bigger than he was in 2007, pre-knee surgery. He spends 2 hours every morning working out, the guy is a fitness FREAK.

In 2005 at the Masters:

He might be a little bigger in the chest, but he also spent 6 months not being able to work on his lower body at all. He spent that time lifting.

AIUI, TNT wasn't (or couldn't) broadcast the weekday am matches while D* apparently did, exclusively. My point was about the apparent exclusivity, not HD. Does anyone know about the contracts and whether D* paid big $$ for weekday am TV exclusivity? -- John

Tiger's not on 'roids, he's just a workout freak as mentioned above. He's always been pretty stealthy about his routine, kind of like Roger Federer. That they're probably the two most fit guys in their respective sports is a major reason for their success.

Besides, if you think about it, steroids would be a bad move for a golfer where timing and flexibility are far more important than brute strength. Look at what happened to David Duval when he trimmed down and bulked up. Sent him into a years long tailspin. He finally gave it all up and started wolfing cheeseburgers again, regained his old pair-shape, and his game came back along with it. HGH however - that's a different story if you're trying to recover from an injury. Still can't see Tiger doing it, though. He'd view it as cheating and when you're the best in the world by a mile, you ain't got no reason to cheat.

QFT. I was watching my DVR copy and was amazed at how little golf was shown during the last hour of coverage on Friday. It seemed as thought they went to break after every shot by Woods and Harrington from about the 15th hole on in. Even more annoying is the utterly relentless hype for TNT's shows. Showing commercials is one thing; they bring in the money. Showing promos for the same two or three TNT series in every break just gets tiresome.

Do the networks conduct any research on the effectiveness of promos? I know I'd never watch a regular show on TNT after this deluge.

Oh, well, back to CBS today, thank goodness!

Except for Gary McCord. My God, that man is in love with his own voice. Almost ruins every CBS golf broadcast. They have the best pic/coverage and the worst announcer, IMO.
