Now 39 years later, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is known as the premier Independence Day celebration in the nation. Each year, since its inception, hundreds of thousands of people come from all over the country to the banks of the Charles River to celebrate America’s birthday while another seven million tune in nationally on the CBS Television Network to view the event during a live one-hour primetime special. Locally, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is an institution seen on WBZ-TV Channel 4 from 8:00PM to 11:00PM.

Nice for some of you----I'm still extremely angry that the rest of the country can't see the whole show. I always enjoyed watching it when it was on for the entire show, but now CBS butchers it and I refuse to watch.

The best thing either CBS or WBZ should do is offer a livestream online of the entire show for anyone outside the Boston Area.

i found the only alternative

I totally agree. When it was on A&E we got the whole show. I watched the first CBS telecast and have not watched since.

BOSTON (CBS) – The Esplanade was evacuated during the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular due to severe storms.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued in Essex County north of Boston, and authorities did not want to take any chances.

An announcement came on the PA system telling the crowd to seek shelter.

The crowd was ushered into the Storrow Drive tunnels to wait out the storm.

Following the storm the audience will be allowed to return to the Esplanade.

Massachusetts State Police expect the delay to last about 30 minutes.

The show which began at 8pm, featured music by the Boston Pops, Dropkick Murphys, Jennifer Hudson and the US Navy Sea Chanters.

The show was delayed just before the Pops were going to perform the 1812 Overture

CBS has a graphic saying previously recorded?

Are they talking about the performance or is there an evacuation due to storms?

Most likely the performances, but we'll see especially with that thunderstorm coming from SE New Hampshire.

WCBS-DT NYC (1 SD Sub Channel) FiOS TV.

Is the stuff on CBS from performances earlier tonight or a dress rehearsal?

Going to break they were still promoting the fireworks.

After the break Michael Chiklis said they are back live.

Audio is the same as previous broadcasts.

Michael Chiklis mic is in the center channel and the music performances are in the L & R.

Looks like there was an evacuation after all

@TomlinM On Esplanade evacuation...CBS cut to the recording of yesterday's Pops rehearsal. Looked seamless on air

Yeah you did yourself a favor. They didn't do the show justice. The camara people would zoom in when the should have been panning out and vice versa - it was incredibly frusterating to watch on tv. I was really dissapointed. Here Chickles is proclaiming the greatest firework display ever and each and every time I would get into the show the camara people would cut to a shot of watching other people enjoy the show (not interesting at all guys!!) Or zoom/pan out inappropriately. Its like they let a highschool av class do the taping...no, I take that back because I'm sure highschoolers would feel the need to do an enjoyable, if not at least passable job!!!!

The fireworks are interesting enough that I wanted to see them - you didn't need to keep my interest with constant movement of the camara, it ruined the show and other than the camara person that had the trees in the bottom corners and the camaras with aerial view, think everyone else should be fired. It seems harsh but there are people looking for work that could've done that job correctly.

Well, definitely the best fireworks show of the night's broadcasts. Nice audio of the explosions coming from the side speakers. I like the less patriotic music. Personally, I think the aerial shots look great. Nice variety. Some trouble with raindrops on the lenses earlier, but that seems to be improving now.

Some out-of-focus and shaky close-up shots of the fireworks. Someone wasn't on their game. Wow, nice climax happening now.

Earlier, I had no idea Jennifer Hudson was so nice to look at. ;-) And i'd never seen red, white and blue clarinets before. Lol. Also, Michael Chiklis did OK as the host after a shaky start.

Anyway, overall, i'd give CBS a definite B+.

I think the audio was a disgrace. One of the thrills of a good fireworks show is the sound of the big explosions. They might as well have placed the mikes inside a building. Chiklis' audio was as loud or louder than the fireworks.

Jennifer Hudson, please stop singing "Feeling Good," your cover is the worst version of that song I have ever heard. Girl butchered the song.

I know I'm a few days late but, I just watched it on my DVR.
