So i ordered a 55st60 should be here soon. however i am a total plasma noob. What is the difference between panel prep and break in? what should i use to "Break in" the tv once i get it.

Break in can be performed many ways. You can use the slides which use full screen images for the first 100 hours of usage. Or you can watch regular content as long as it uses the whole screen and doesn't have persistent logos.


D-Nice's panel prep is using the same exact procedure as he did in the first 100 hours. That way his settings on your set have the best possible way of looking the way they do in the set he is calibrating.


D-Nice has said that even if you started using the 2012 slides it won't make a difference as the are basically the same color panels with a few minor adjustments.

If you want to use his settings, then do the prep, otherwise you can "break in" the TV by watching it.

I would only use the slides if you plan on using his settings.


In regards to break in any procedure you use that doesn't involve 4x3 content or persistent logos should be fine. The goal for break in is to not use content that might lead to image retention early in the sets life.

I don't want to speak for D-Nice, but I don't believe he has ever done settings for EU models.

i'm getting the P50ST60 tomorrow to replace a rear projection dinosaur that conked out.


Unfortunately i'd have a hard time running slides for the first 100 hrs, especially Friday night and over the weekend with a wife and three kids in the house.


I watch alot of sports, Any advice on how I should handle watching them initially and over the long haul to avoid IR or burn?

Running slides is not meant to prevent IR, it is meant to age the panel evenly and stabilize the panel's performance faster for the settings D-Nice provides and/or professional calibration. In your case, I would just turn the contrast and brightness down and just consciously try to channel hop once in awhile. I have not had my ST60 long enough to tell you what IR is like on the panel.

The comment was worded poorly on my part, I wasn't implying that I thought the slides would prevent IR, just wish I could run the slides over the weekend to prep for the settings.


The IR or Burn was the question, and ways to go about preventing it watching sports, any type of settings beyond contrast and brightness that might help?

The other thing you may try is to use the various zoom options to minimize any scrolling bars and or static logos that would be on the top/bottom of the screen. Not optimal but plasmas are not exactly plug and play like LCD. Regardless of any extra care required (especially initially), I still prefer their characteristics over LED/LCD. Also, if you do suffer from IR, the ST60 has a screen wipe utility. You could also use the pixel flipper program on the Disney Wow disc. Some people have reported it clears up IR faster than the screen wipe utilities. (If you don't already have a calibration disc, I would highly recommend the Disney Wow disc. It is well worth the price.)


Over the long haul I can tell you that my 2007 Panasonic plasma I treat no differently than any other television now. The first few hundred hours it could get some IR on sports due to the static logos and scroll bars but it always went away pretty easily. If there is any IR on my screen I honestly could not tell you because I do not notice it. Overall, IR is an issue to be aware of but not something to become overly worried about. If it happens, you can solve it pretty easily. I would just try to enjoy the TV and take a few precautions during the first few hundred hours.

1. I just bought a Panasonic 60St60 and plan to run d-nice's slides. Should you run these continuously or is it okay to turn the tv off for a few hours at a time to give the TV a break? I only plan to run the slides for the first 100 hours.


2. How long does it usually take for D-nice to put his settings up? My TV should be here in early May and was just curious if we could expect them by then.



D-nice if you see this I currently live in Charleston but lived in Columbia for my college years before moving here. I would love to hear if you travel for calibrations.

1. I think most people just run the slides nonstop. It won't hurt your tv. If you do feel the need to give the tv a rest, just don't watch anything else while doing so.

2. I expect that D-Nice will have the settings up sometime this week, certainly before you get your tv in May.
