Let the madness begin!!! At first the first game of the tournament was almost a blowout but turned out to be exciting before halftime. As for the pq and aq they are soso. I remember a few years ago that CBS raised the volume higher than normal during march madness a few years ago. Expect macroblocking in confetti by the final game....

The picture on TrUTV last night didn't look too good. I saw a lot of blotchy patches, and even worse was the foggy effect. Several camera shots I saw a square of fog in the entire center section of the Television. The side bars were normal. It's like they had a sheet of steamed up glass in front of that particular camera.

Some early remarks on picture quality, Dayton/Ohio State looks pretty soft, dark, and pixelated on CBS. American University/Wisconsin looks pretty darn crisp on truTV.

Some observations watching via Cox Cable in AZ.

KPHO(CBS) Phoenix....jaggies on the court lines otherwise OK.

truTV...very good PQ, about the best of the 4 nets.

TBS..very good PQ...just a notch below truTV.

TNT...a little on the grainy side but otherwise good.

Second upset (but many predicted this one). Harvard over Cincinnati (the 12 over the 5). Proves the upset last year over New Mexico was no fluke.

Happy lies the face of CBS' James Brown.

First upset. Buh bye, Buckeyes.
According to ESPN, 19.7% of the brackets submitted through their bracket challenge had picked Dayton. I guess that makes me a part of the 19.7% then.

Well look at how many people lost a chance to win a BILLION DOLLARS because Dayton beat OSU, Harvard beat Cinci, and NDSU beat Oklahoma. Warren Buffet will be keeping his money this year for sure.

Had those all right, it was NC state blowing their lead that I got wrong.

As for PQ, the Texas ASU game on CBS looks best of all so far. CBS OTA in Minneapolis is noticeably better than all the other games on Dish satellite channels. And more so than the PQ differences, I can't believe how different the audio is from the different sites. Again CBS wins there too.

Another. (11 over 6). Tennessee over UMass.

Seems to be a good year to be a double digit seed.

With Tennessee's win, a double-digit seed is guaranteed to make the sweet 16 (they will play #14 Mercer, who beat Duke)

So here's a question, where is the purple streak in Amy, the Amazon.com "help" girl's hair in the special tournament commercials?

A concerned nation needs to know...

For those who were wondering, ALL BILLION DOLLAR BRACKETS HAVE BEEN BUSTED! We didn't make it out of the first round of games this year.

From Yahoo! Sports

There are no longer any perfect brackets left in the Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge

By Yahoo! Sports Staff 22 hours ago The Dagger

There are no longer any perfect brackets remaining in the Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge.

Better luck next time, world.

Though the contest captured the imagination of many seeking fabulous riches, not one single billion-dollar entry was able to escape the round of 64 without picking at least one game incorrectly. Memphis' 71-66 win over George Washington eliminated the final three brackets that were eligible to win $1 billion. So, 25 games into the Round of 64 – or 37.3 percent through the tournament – every single billion-dollar bracket was busted. (Depending on who you ask, the odds of picking a perfect bracket sit somewhere between 1 in 128 billion and 1 in 9.2 quintillion, give or take a few decimal points.)

One perfect bracket – "Brad's Breathtaking Bracket" – remained after the 25th game in Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick 'em, but that bracket was not entered in the billion-dollar challenge.

The assault on perfection, however, started long before Friday night. Upsets by Dayton, Harvard and North Dakota State thinned the herd on Thursday before Mercer's shocker over Duke culled the pack even more. By Friday, after Stanford beat New Mexico, only 16 perfect brackets remained.

Now, however, that number stands at zero.

I don't follow college basketball all that much, but I see that the Cavaliers were victorious in the ACC this year.

May I infer that the Roundheads didn't do nearly as Cromwell?

I've had the same experience on Comcast here in Hartford-New Haven (WFSB-DT, which BTW SUCKS). TruTV, TBS, and TNT looked amazing. CBS has generally been a mess. I think WFSB is screwing with it. It's possible that if Comcast is taking the OTA feed bit for bit, then WFSB's subchannels are sucking too much bandwidth away from the real channel. If Comcast is getting high-bitrate fiber feed, then I don't know what is happening. Because of this, I wish they'd move all the games to cable, but obviously they want the eyeballs that network TV will give them for the big ad dollars.

Going into it, I was fearing a level of low like CBSSportsNetwork, which is a pixelated mess with stereo audio, but I pleasantly surprised to see (at least on the three cable channels) some really good looking HD, an excellent surround mix, and mostly crisp graphics (although I've seen some pixelated graphics that look like poorly scaled SD too). It's weird watching good 1080i, as most of the big games during the year are on ESPN or ESPN2 at 720p, and our team is on SNY when they're not on ESPN, which does 1080i, but not that well. I far prefer 1080i to 720p, although I may be biased since I'm running a DVDO EDGE that does the deinterlacing.
