I've read that the Samsung U8550 and the Panasonic AX802 both have twin hd tuners and you can start watching a show that was previously recorded while recording another one, or watch a live broadcast while recording a second program and send it via the internet or a private network to your tablet or smartphone.

I then read the manual for the Samsung U8550 and it said this feature is not available in Canada and the US.

Can someone explain if this is true.  I would really enjoy the ability to record shows on an external usb device and no longer need a dvr from the cable company.

Thanks.

The ability to record from the TV is apparently only a European thing. North American TVs do not have this capability (probably due to copyright laws), and virtually all of the NA TVs only have one built-in tuner. TVs are very country-specific so when reading about any possible TV candidates stick only to the ones that are available in your own country. Reading about foreign versions of the TV will only lead to confusion as they have different features and abilities and even different apps across the various countries and regions.

There is a product called the hd home run from silicondust which does essentially the same thing, don't know about compatibility with canadian broadcasts but sounds like you might like the idea of network attached television with twin tuner
