This guy reviewed it. He is saying the 930d is better than the 900e. Glad I saw this review and now I am getting the 930e 65."

I'm not so sure about that dude ,seen him on Youtube , but it's not impossible e.g., the 2015 X850C here is significantly better than the 2016 X850D model .

The X900 E is a legitimate bridge product above the 2017 edge lit X850E and below X930E "edge lit FALD" but as to where the X900E compares to the 2016 X930D maybe it could go either way and dude just has cognitive bias to his X930D or X930C if that's what he owns ,either are arguably very good LCD TV .

Moreover X930D is at very good price now while you can still get them , probably I would have it on my short list also if I were shopping .

Dude has no clue about the Sony X850C or how to use it and maybe he had one with a bad panel , a lot of those were bad panel TV's and Sony had to exchange a lot of those but mine is pristine as frame dimming edge lit panels go and I know how to use it in BT 2020 mode like Sony recommends and it ain't what he says to set things at :p

IMO dude is wrong more than he is right and maybe not ISF or THX trained calibrator because I never heard a trained calibrator do what he does and I have an electronics education besides all that and I know whats in these things and the panels :)

Thanks much I am wondering if the move up to an X900E from a lucky good panel X850C outside of gaming is plausible for the wow factor or maybe the X930E or 9ZD instead on the LCD side .

I never game on X850C in this office /study/bdrm we have a dedicated DIY custom 1080p ultra game PC on a 1080p Sony Bravia here and the 64f8500 plasma out front but the X850C is *my primary TV .

Decent 4K gaming on a PC at playable frame rates is spendy .

Upscaled 1080i/1080p and 720p and DVD /BD looks real decent on * this X850C with a decent panel so does 4K HDR and some 4K HDR which can look real good or like rubbish on any given HDR production .

The latest 2 (Oct-Dec 2016) firmware upgrades significantly upgraded the X850C all in all including HDR processing and more brightness by about 100 NIT more and it shows .

I got a very good panel in mine so it may that your visited X850C panel is not that good and or the owner had it way out of a decent calibration /white balance /settings aside from what sounds like a lousy panel I don't have .You have to know how to use an X850C in BT 2020 color space not the BT709 pre sets and BFI motion >clearness must be OFF or it looks grey and dull even at 1 :)

. A lot of X850C had bad panels or barely passable panels and looked like it thats why aside from Q4 pricing I waited for a late production X850C model when all that was getting better instead of an arguably better and more spendy Samsung JS8500 I might like better ,there were some of those X850 I wouldent touch with a 10 ft. pole or traded back in straight away for the Samsung JS 8500 .:p

OTOH the X900E would have likely be my choice if it was my first 4K HDR TV or around at Q4 2015 it has basically the same decent X1 processing as mine and a different and brighter FALD back light so all that is a legitimate set of upgrades over the X850C .

I would like more than 900-1000 NIT peaks on an LCD which agin leads me to the X930E X1 xtreme or 9ZD X1 extreme or maybe instead the Sony 9ZD at whatever brightness peak it has but I will certainly look at the X900E it may be a sleeper .
I did months upon months upon months of research on different tv's and the x850c has actually great specs on paper Rtings score were good, people on youtube giving it good scores etc etc it seemed to be the perfect tv for me as a gamer but oh man i was shocked that day.. still boggles my mind when thinking about it:eek:..
Never Again lol

then i got the CX800, top of the line 2015 tv from panasonic, screen was perfect great motion and hdr was good but tv overall felt outdated and i thought it was better to save a little more up for a better newer model which has better HDR inplemented so i returned it.. then got recently the LG UH8500, awsome tv with Dolby vision! this is suposed the perfect gamers tv according to some local webshopt overhere and thats absolutly true everything was perfect until i watched some sports and noticed terrible banding and returned that one too! so im clearly tired for searching the perfect tv, i hope the x900e or the 930e deliver and dont let us down

With an LCD TV it's simple in US ,Sony or Samsung and which one of either

outside of maybe input lag for gaming or out of game mode you must have seen a pre Andoid 6.0 X850C with a bad panel and a grossly incorrectly adjusted X850C with motion > clearness BFI cranked up , they are not the best but significantly better than nearly any LG LCD and some others including the Sony X850D but so is the arguably better 2015 Samsung JS 8500 .:)

rtings .com gives the firmware updated 55X850C the nod over the 2016 samsung KS 8000 HDR but not beyond that on KS 8000

Updated X850 Rting scores re: oct '16 firmware and dec '16 firware went beyond all that

USAGE RATINGS
7.7Mixed Usage
7.6Movies
7.3TV Shows
7.4Sports
8.5Videogames
7.8HDR Movies
8.1HDR Gaming
7.7PC monitor

The caveat being a good panel and that you know how to use it

pppfftt there is no perfect TV below 14 bit deep color , infinite black ,perfect motion and detail at all color volumes and gradations and brightness maybe at 8K ,no panel anomalies ,banding or DSE and not below 20,000 NIT :p

I returned my 900e, while the blooming on the tv is not that bad and calibration removed a lot of it. But I just felt like for the price of the tv it was to close to other sets that do not suffer from it. I may come back though if the p series or oled doenst work for me:confused::confused::confused:

Exactly that's why I'm thinking at least an Sony X930E or Sony Z1C OLED or Sony 9ZD megawatt FALD over my arguably~ OK but not range topping Sony X850C I have now

A 'review' and couldn't even be bothered to take pics and video of the set? :D
Spec-wise: the XE900 has over the 930D: newer X1, beter SoC (MT5891 vs MT5890) and direct LED backlighting. Brightness is similar ...
Basically he says the the performance is (at the least) comparable only the 930D is cheaper, which is a fair point because I wouldn't buy the XE900 at the MSRP either ... (nor any tv for that matter)(not to mention they priced it higher here than in the neighbouring country/countries )

This guy seems to be a bit of a kook. Personally, I doubt that he has even seen one of these tvs. First of all, he provides no video or photos of the tvs themselves. Second, all the videos he posts show a Sony tv menu but it's unclear which tv he's actually using since the lights are turned out and you can't see the tv frame or stand itself.
His videos on photography technology are bizarre to say the least. He uses incorrect and made up terminology and doesn't seem to actually explain anything but the obvious.
In this video, he says that "you don't get any better than a full frame". Err... medium format? He then goes on to mistakenly call APS-H and APS-C format sensors "SPH" and "SPC" respectively and a 1.5" sensor a "one-fifth". He then invents the term "Micro two-thirds" when referring to a 2/3" sensor and calls a 1/1.7" sensor "one and one-seventeenth".

Here is the techradar.com review. Very positive! http://www.techradar.com/reviews/sony-bravia-xbr-55x900e
If this is legit and not a reader posing as Robert Zohn at prominent Value Electronics he commented very favorably about the X900E at the Tech Radar review comments section.

OTOH I don't have any reason to doubt the authenticity of the post .

Excellent review that matches our findings.

We have the X900E and it's butt next to the X930E and Z9D on our TV Shootout wall. The local dimming performance is what you would expect from a good back-lit UHD TV, with very good color fidelity and contrast. Great new 2017 TV at an excellent value.

Anyone confirm Dolby Vision on this X900E? A Best Buy Magnolia manager asked his area Sony RSS (I do not know what an RSS is, but that is the acronym the Best Buy manager used) whether it did or not, and the Sony RSS stated the X900E DOES have Dolby Vision.

No they will only have DV in the 930E, 940E and the Z9D. It has to do with these TV's are using the new X1E.

No matter how many times you ask the answer isn't going to change :)
I know you know your stuff, one can never depend on 99% of BB staff to actually know what they are talking about - Sony RSS is Sony Retail Sales Specialist. Depending on the size (sales potential) of the BB, you will see one there either full-time or on a regular basis. The smaller stores get no love from Sony.

Seems strange to me that the 49X900E and 55X900E are priced the same, even on Sony's website.

I haven't seen the 49" available anywhere to actually purchase, just pre-order. I assume when they are finally released into the wild that the 49" will see a price drop from MSRP just like the other sizes.

New review in Polish: https://hdtvpolska.com/sony-xe9005-kd-55xe9005-test-android-tv-2017-4k-hdr/ (pixel structure indicates a Samsung panel, which the X930E also have btw)

:D

Apparently the DCI coverage is actually 95% and a software error is the reason the AV Forum result was lower? Maybe they mean the uv score that was 80% on AV Forums ...
And one more thing they cover that I was wondering about: does it have dark corners like a lot of direct LED sets have? And it seems it does a little ...
Not really sure what the Motion Blur pics are supposed to indicate or at what frame rate they were moving [the text above seems positive and it's not listed as a con in any case]

[and I use google translate as well yes :p; maybe I can ask some who can actually read Polish tomorrow]
