This thread has been created to post and discuss settings on the 2018 Samsung Q9FN models, for the purpose of optomizing performance.

Whether you are a Videophile,Calibrator,Gamer or End User, your knowledge and experience will be valuable to all.

When posting settings or recommended changes, a brief explanation of net effect in a particular mode or across all settings would be greatly apreciated.

Either tonight or tomorrow I will post pre-cal and post-cal results and settings. I will do it on movie setting so others can copy settings if they wish. Otherwise I have night/day mode because I have it enabled through calman software. Same with hdr, I will be using movie setting. Note the calibrations I am doing and posting would be geared towards “director’s intent” and accuracy. This tv is very capable of color and pop, so many of those settings can be adjusted to personal liking, same with backlight control.

Dang! I better get working! Although I have the feeling I'm going to be out in left field relative to how I use my display :).

Nice job opening the thread!

Do keep in mind that component tolerances can vary between tv's of the same model and build. Correctly adjusting user settings is based on those tolerances so if someone responds that the posted settings don't look good, that's the reason, even if the settings come from a panel that has actually been calibrated to reference standards with a light meter and software.

Every panel is it's own world :).

Hopefully suggested settings for an environment / use will land you safely then you can tweak for your particular situation.

There is reason to doubt that anyone else's settings will work for you. If there were such improved settings. Samsung engineers, being competent, would know them, and Samsung would have made these settings the default. So, personally, I never use others' settings.

Sorry, you're going to have to accept the fact that if my TV comes as scheduled this Friday, I'm going to try your settings and I may like them lol

I'd rather have someone else's calibrated settings to "try" just to see if they look better than default. It's a good place to start. Thanks for starting the thread.

Agreed. Environment/Use is a HUGE factor in a properly set panel. It all comes down to what the user likes. A lot of folks don't like a properly calibrated panel. The reason being is that it's not what they are used to. So as long as folks who use other settings don't think their panel is calibrated, and there are no issues, no harm no foul.

FWIW, here's my current settings. The settings are still in progress but I am loving the picture quality of this set.

It's 65 inch QN65Q9FNAFXKR (2018) Korean domestic model with FA02 Samsung panel. (The US and EU version and models with different panel manufacturer (eg. AUO) may result in different picture.)

Q9FN is installed in my gaming room which is 100% light controlled with Philips Hue lighting system.

Above documents have almost answers of all questions which anyone has in his mind regarding Settings.
There is some excellent information posted so far, however it is necessary to understand that some setting modifications effect a particular mode or can effect performance across the platform. Given the complexity of setting changes, it is important to understand the net effect those changes make. AS such, discussion on why is every bit as important as the settings.

I hope we can stay engaged on this topic...thank you!
