What remote can I purchase in order to access the service menu? Asbl destroys some games
If you have an Android phone with an IR blaster, there is an App called AnyMote that will give you access to the LG Service Menu.

Other wise, search eBay for the LG Service Remote (they can be found for reasonable prices), or purchase a Harmony Remote.

I have used all three options in the past but ultimately stuck with using my Harmony Elite. The Harmony is good purchase if you have multiple devices and want to set Activities to start each device in sequence and change inputs/settings etc. It doesn't have to be the Elite or one of the more expensive Hub based ones, a normal IR one (such as the 650) will work just fine

Edited to add:- Be careful and mind what you are doing in the Service Menu. If you alter a setting that is not meant to be altered you could brick you TV.

Greetings,

I know that this thread is probably a bit biased but I know that people here have very good knowledge of the current TV technologies.
I'm planning to buy a new TV during Black Friday and cannot really decide between OLED and LED.

The TV will be placed in the living room, with ~2.2m viewing distance. Its possible to control the light of the living room.
I already have a projector with a 120 inch screen in another room, which is mainly for viewing Movies.
The TV will mainly be used for PC-Games, TV and Sports (2 Games of Soccer per Week), it will be the only device with a TV-Cable connection in my house.
My Desktop-Computer will be attached to the TV, which is why I plan to play PC-Games on it.
My girlfriend will probably use it for Netflix as well, so Movie capability is important too.

After some research, I pinned the following Models:
65 inch Sony X900F (which I could currently get for 900€)
55 inch LG C9
65 inch LG B8

The C9 would be great because of its picture quality and HDMI 2.1 spec (Variable Frame Rate for my Desktop).
The B8 and X900F only have HDMI 2.0, which is a bummer. That means, no option for [email protected] Hz in the future.

However, the C9 will be 10 inches smaller and I am concerned for Screen Burn-in with Game-HUD's and Sport-Banners.
It would be my top pick, but these arguments make me hesitate.

900€ for the X900F is an amazing deal and it does have a good contrast-ratio of 5000:1 (amazing for an LCD).
However, I feel like I probably would never really appreciate that TV, thinking that OLED would provide even better picture quality.

Maybe someone can help me out...
My general recommendation is to get the biggest OLED you can afford. In your case for PC gaming, depending on how much you plan to game with the TV, you will have to decide if that makes the C9 worth going down to a 55" TV.

I've been able to check it on mine now. Mine is behaving just as you're describing both last night and tonight. No LG Channels.
Thanks for testing man. I actually managed to fix this issue. What you need to do is, bizarrely, go to your location settings, change country to say for example and as I did, Canada. Your TV will then reboot, accept the terms and conditions that will appear. Then, change the TV back to your real location (US for me), it will reboot, agree to terms and conditions again... And as if by dark magic, LG Channels will/should work as intended.

Thanks! How did you ever figure out to try that? I think I figured out an easier way should it happen again. I went to Channels in the settings, and then toggled LG Channels off and accepted the warning about losing all the LG Channels. Then I turned LG Channels back on. I then got the banner showing the number of LG Channels available.

Now I have "The Lucy Show" on "Binge FREE TV." I very rarely find anything of interest on the two hundred plus LG Channels, but I keep looking for that needle in the haystack.

I just ordered my 65" C9 about half an hour ago and got a calibration included with it!! So excited!! I'll be giving my 10 year old Pioneer Kuro to my Aunt and Uncle so they can get a size upgrade for at least as long as the Kuro lasts (nothing seems to be wrong with it at the moment).

Quick question, is there any normal user-based option or setting that shouldn't be changed post calibration because it would effect the operation of the calibration? Mainly thinking of "OLED Light", but not sure if there are other accessible options that could affect a calibrated picture adversely.

Isn’t calibration advised after 300 hours of viewing?

Yes (well not clear on the exact time), but they burn it in at the shop so it does take longer to get the order obviously.

Haha, I know man. After I managed to fix it and see what was actually on offer, talk about anti-climax...

Only thing I might watch? Is perhaps some of the news channels, but even then? I don't know.

Re: finding that solution, I'd like to take full credit, but I actually found that as a possible solution at the xumo help page. I think it seems to be a common issue with LG Channels, so much so that it was front and center as a common issue on their page.

What meter do they use to calibrated it?

I couldn't tell you any particulars, but it's a well known forum vendor and at least one of their calibrators posts here so I'm not concerned about the quality of the calibration.

Aside from not wanting to inadvertantly screw up the calibration after I get it, I'm kind of dreading setting everything up since I've never dealt with HDR before, and I've got a Fire TV, PS4, HTPC, UB820, and an OSSC all to get setup properly on the thing, lol!!

How long do you have to wait to receive your C9? I personally don’t think it’s a good idea to calibrate your model this soon. Especially on OLED.

Some places will run the tv for a couple hundred hours and then calibrate after before sending it to the customer

I've stumbled upon this thread while researching reviews about the Xbox 1X with the C9 as I am debating upgrading my current tv to the 65C9. I wanted to just see whether someone could clarify that I have understood the situation right now with the issues described in this and other forums before I spend the best part of £2K. That is, if the X1X is connected to the AVR rather than directly to the C9, there is no audio delay with gaming when using the X1X, that Dolby Atmos etc is true and not lossy, BUT connecting it this way means you forfeit the ability to utilise VRR when playing games? (Hence why people are connecting X1X -> C9 and then to their AVR via eArc (but getting audio lag)?

if I have understood this correctly, other than the obvious point about the set not doing what it should do, as a compromise until/if this is sorted, how much of an impact does not having VRR have on gameplay (does anyone know the duration of lag without VRR?) with the C9?

My AVR has eArc, so if I purchased the C9 and connected X1X -> AVR -> C9 or even X1X -> C9 -> AVR via eArc would the audio lag still be apparent?

If if I connect X1X -> AVR-> C9 and watch uhd blu-ray using the X1X, am I right in thinking that there would be no audio sync issues? This is how I currently use my X1X and have never had an issue with audio sync either gaming or with films and get atmos via my AVR. I'm only wanting to upgrade to a bigger screen and one that should be relatively future proof when the new consoles are released next year.

Thanks, Andy.

Really wanting to pull the trigger on the 65 C9 but have the burn in concerns.
I'm looking for someone who watches a lot of sports, I'll watch movies to.

So the average game , Football, Baseball, Hockey, lasts about three hours. With all the info that's on the screen in that time
and you watch it almost every day year after year, but you vary your content in between how worried should I be with burn-in?
So like for football on a Sunday that's about 9 hours in a day every Sunday for 16 weeks. Baseball has 162 games and here in St. Louis FSMW has this god awful static
box in the upper right hand corner. It says Fox Sports Cardinals, or if I'm watching the Blues that what it says. I have Panny plasma now and that box is burned in.
So is it likely to happen on the C9 ?

You may have missed him saying that they run it at the shop to put hours on it first, which causes a delay before he gets it. It will already have had the X00 hours on it before they calibrate it for him. A few specialist retailers offer this service.

The main thing is to not do a factory reset.

They will send you some pdfs with the settings it was calibrated with, so don't change those settings (though you can always change them back by looking at the pdfs). I haven't found much need to touch most of the Picture settings. I have played around a little with TruMotion (De-Blur & De-Judder), but that's about it.

Outside of the Picture settings, you should be pretty safe changing just about anything.

Didn’t know this is a possibility. In the Netherlands there is no such service. I have a hard time finding someone who can calibrate the tv with the latest software and equipment.

It isn't very common in the US. I am very happy they offer the service. Since I live a long ways from any major cities, it is the only option I had for getting a calibrated tv. There are some calibrators in some of the major cities. There are also a couple calibrators who travel around, but they don't come to anywhere near me.

You might want to try contacting Vincent Teoh. He is based in the UK and he does do some traveling. He may well go to the Netherlands on occasion. I have no idea how much he charges, but he is very well respected. Everyone in these forums would be happy to have a tv calibrated by him.

Same problem here. I think I mostly got rid of it though.
Make sure that GSync is set to fullscreen only in the nVIDIA Control Panel (nVCP).
In-game, make sure fullscreen is enabled (not fake borderless window fullscreen).
I also disabled fullscreen optimizations by right-clicking the game client .exe and unchecking the setting under compatibility settings.

Other things I did include setting setting my framerate to 57 FPS via a program called RTSS and enabled VSync via the nVCP, but I am pretty sure the fullscreen stuff was the fix.

I swear I can still see it a little in super dark scenes..just not as bad. :/
Thanks for tips I'll give them a test and report back since the destiny 2 map is so easy to confirm whether its working or not I should know for sure what helps.

Cheers!

Just a bump about my issues with the black bars randomly flashing white last night in dark scenes and seeing a heavy amount of noise in the picture on a couple of movies (4K Blu-ray) only in the sky or similarly uniform background areas of the image while the rest of the picture was clear and completely lacking in noise.

Anyone else experienced these or have an answer why they could be happening?
