I wish I seen how well this worked.
I only owned this tv since January and by that time the 4k HDR video files from an external hdd, never worked. They did work fine on the TCL 6 2018 model, so I always wish tcl would fix this again. On the older TCL 6, the videos looked brighter and sharper playing thru the Roku tv app rather than another device like a HTPC or shield TV or firetv. The built in Roku app always had brighter and sharper HDR pop. HDR from our own hdd files looked comparable in quality to Dolby vision content from Netflix, and Disney plus apps.
It worked the same as on the 2018 model up until around December of last year.

I never had this problem at all. I would factory reset your tv or something.
No the external file thing doesn't bother me enough to have to reset my tv. I have my RokuTV apps set up perfectly the way I want it with all my app logins(Hulu,Netflix,Plex, slingtv, disneplus, hbonow, plus all my tv settings). The tv works as it should for the most part. Plus I just use my home theater pc to play all those HDR files and it plays the files with nearly the same image quality hdr pop as Roku video player(I was hoping tcl/Roku would fix their hdr video file playback to give me more choices to playback files and for a little better sharper playback). It all works out since I don't have a modern AV sound system to get dolby Atmos audio via hdmi system, so I still use the primitive analog outputs to 7.1 channel amplifiers from a PC to enjoy lossless audio sound Dolby truehd Atmos/dtshdma from those HDR video files.
----
Yeah I know Dolby dark/hdr dark is the way to go for the most accurate picture when compared to other tvs, but I just love the bright (sometimes artificial)pop from Dolby bright/hdr bright. I figure since we don't have 1000+ nits like Sony x950h,Viziopqx,Samsung q80/90,and tcl8, then might as well use the brightest settings to try to keep up with the big boys.

No. Samoth is ok around here. Keep posting your results each update. I'm just glad samoth is always testing each firmware to see if the Dolby truehd video file playback problem is ever fixed ( it seems like TCL could easily fix this issue since they caused it in the December firmware).
But I suspect tcl may never fix this issue since not enough people are complaining about it.

It's the first thing I jump on with every update. I was even it contact with the community manager on the Roku boards, and I gave him a bunch of information that he would pass on to the development team but they have gone quiet. I suspect the lock down has something to do with that so I am gonna try to contact him again.

Your #1976 post in response to #1970 does NOT have ant relevance to this thread. The same applies to post #1970 .
That's IT.

Calm down. If you have an issue, report it. You’️re not a mod.
Did you get a infraction from the Mods? I got an infraction for some dude picking a fight with me. You can’t defend yourself on here it’s a disgrace. Mods think they are gods. Anyway you did nothing wrong. What R625 size do you have?

Tcl 6 series here.

Every time I turn on the TV and start to play ps4 the input delay is very noticeable for the last week. I have had to do a system restart every time I turn the TV on for game mode to act as it should.

I noticed it updated 6/25 to 9.3 so I'm assuming it's a bad update. There is a thread on another site about this issue as well. Is anyone here having this problem or have any idea when it will be fixed?

I have the previous year's 6 series model (55R613) and had the same issues after the 9.3 update. I had to 100% factory reset the TV to get this stuff to stop - it's been fine since I did that. I think something's messed up when you do the upgrade install and doesn't get fixed until the complete reset is done.

I just turn Game Mode off and on, fixing the issue.

I can’t remember if I went back and tried the app again after a proper calibration. That’s what someone needs to do though. Someone needs to actually measure how well the app is performing and evaluate actual data.

I’m not sure that I will ever bother though lol. It’s not something I enjoy doing. It’s just something I do when I’m too cheap to pay for a professional and even then it’s only for a non-primary display in a bedroom or something. I can’t exist in my home with a display that hasn’t been calibrated, but I’d much rather pay someone else to do it. It’s way too complicated and cumbersome and mentally exhausting for me. The good news is that, unless it’s a lamp based projector, there is no drift. Unless something goes terribly wrong you only need to do it once per input.

With my TCL it came at the expense of a lot of time and education, but it’s as close to perfect as I can get it without a lot more time and a massive investment in a better meter. With my LG it came with a $600 price tag, but I know it was done by one of the very best and that comes with significant piece of mind and the overall cost of the TV kind of justified it.

Roku Media Player was updated a couple of days ago. Still has the same issues with certain 4K HDR files. At this point I kinda doubt it will be fixed.

I can't get the TCL IPQ app to work on my Samsung S20+, seems it is only designed for Google Pixel phones?

HDR BRIGHT Flicker issue - weird finding today

I have been in touch with both Roku and Amazon for a couple weeks trying to resolve the HDR Bright flicker problem. For me, this problem has always only happened in the Amazon Prime app. VUDU, Netflix, etc...work without issue on this setting (I have the 65r625). A few week ago, 4K UHD shows on Prime completely stopped streaming in UHD. Even though I would choose, say the show, Hanna's UHD seasons, the TCL would default to non-UHD streams. This has been happening for every single show/movie on Prime that has 4K and Atmos content.

Oddly, today I tried Jack Ryan Season 1 just to see if the UHD was working again and BOOM! IT WAS! Not only was it working, but the HDR Bright setting has absolutely no flicker issue!! Same with season 2. Now for the weird part. Jack Ryan seasons 1 and 2 are the only show that is working like this. Hanna, Bosch, Hunters, My Spy, 7500, The Boys - you name it - all are resorting back to the SDR settings.

What all of this means, I have no clue. I've always thought the HDR BRIGHT flicker issue needed a Roku Update to resolve it, but now with this finding, I wonder if it is an Amazon Prime App issue? No idea, just wanted to share my findings.

I have read every page of this thread btw, and I am happy to have found it!

This is my setup:
1. NO external device.
2. I get Prime Video through the Dish Hopper 3(4K).
3. The Hopper 3 is connected to Onkyo(TX-RZ820) AVR HDMI 2 input.
4. My TV is TCL 55R625.
5. About ten minutes ago I tried Bosch S5 Ep 10 4K HDR with DD+ 5.1. It was smooth as silk.
6. Then I went with Jack Ryan S1 Ep 2 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 without any problems.
That's it.
