I was all for this tv until I found out it only has two 2.1 hdmi ports. No bueno for me especially with one of those being for eARC. They are handing sales over to LG since they have four 2.1 hdmi ports. Very stupid for Sony only going with two.

No, just yours. Anyone who actually would require and use 3 2.1 inputs would have a 2.1 receiver.

Considering this or a80j over the current crop of LGs. This gen of Sonys seem like the greatest thing ever from the marketing material (I'm a sucker for marketing). Looking forward to impressions! :D

^I think both of those sets will be the ones to beat this year! Either choice is a win win🙂

To be fair, there are no 2.1 receivers that have more than 1 input at the moment afaik, and even that single port has issues.
By year end that should no longer be the case. Unless the consumer is the rare sort that buys a new TV every year, waiting for a decent hdmi 2.1 AVR to come to market for 6 months to a year shouldn't be a deal breaker. I could handle unplugging and plugging in hdmi cables for that long. If I keep the TV at least 5 years that's a fairly small percentage of the lifetime of the TV I'm putting up with the hassle. As long as VRR actually comes out and isn't a buggy mess there won't be any hdmi 2.1 showstoppers for most gamers with this TV.

I use a sound bar and so do many many others. No 2.1 hdmi sound bars are out right now and not all have extra inputs. It’s a poor decision by Sony not to have the 4 2.1 hdmi inputs. No defending it when LG has 4.
I’m not making excuses for any company. I’m just not understanding the point or need for more than 2 HDMI 2.1 ports when I know it’s a gamer thing and no true/hardcore gamer I’ve encountered cares to have a PS5, XSX and PC for gaming. At best, a PS5 and PC. At worse a XSX and PC.... I have that as at worse because the XSX would be redundant since their exclusive games are available on PC.... well those gamers actually want to play.

Now, I do not agree with Sony using port 3 as 2.1 knowing that it is also the eARC port, However, I do understand why they did.

I have a PS5, XSX, GTX 3080 and Switch for gaming. So, we are out there real "hardcore" gamers that are not biased to one platform or another. So, my LG 2.1 HDMI ports are full. I have the Switch hooked up through my Sony sound bar.
