Cheers Hurin, very helpful. And yeah that definitely looks like the same thing.

PC desktop use is basically a worst case scenario for this problem, especially when using dark modes, as i'm encountering it reasonably often as i only use this TV as a monitor.
I just tested it and I can see it on my C2, C1 and A83J. I have actually never seen it until you showed us your video and I’m using the C1 as a monitor for quite a while now (basically with dark modes only) lol

Firmware update v03.20.24 for all C2 / G2 models is now officially available.

General Info
webOS: 7.2.0-22 (Linux Kernel 5.4.96)
Firmware timestamp: August 9, 2022

The USB variant of the version can be downloaded here. LG's regional support sites will gradually make the version available.
The distribution via Network Software Update (NSU) takes place in stages, not every device may receive the update at the same time.

The official changelog corresponds to the push message that some TVs have already received and that I described here.

The following lists are unofficial and have no claim to completeness or correctness.
They also include changes that were already introduced in some regions with v03.11.56.

Changes / Bugfixes
  • Dolby Engine updated to v32.05.
  • Added Dolby Precision Rendering support. The option can be enabled in the supported picture modes.
  • Improved near black handling.
  • Optimized AirPlay audio delay.
  • Firmwares of the Audio DSP, Video Decoder and WiFi / Bluetooth modules updated.
  • Added support for additional models (LG Gaming TV / bendable screens).
  • New advertisement features added to the Home dashboard.
  • Max. AV1 bitrate support of the internal media server increased to 60Mbps.
  • "LG Channels" added as an input to the Home input row.
  • Room Connect app unlocked for several regions and feature enabled for Japan.
  • Improved voice recognition features.
  • Yandex Alice voice recognition support added for select countries.
  • List of pre-installed SSL certificates updated.
  • Bugfix: HDR picture modes didn't allow to set all values of the 22pt adjustments in the user settings menu.
  • Bugfix: Fixed invalid permission in the service menu to change the TV model.
  • Bugfix: Fixed Dolby Vision configuration of Cinema picture mode, which caused a too bright presentation.
  • Several minor bugfixes and improvements.

Unfixed
  • OLED Motion has no real effect when a 120Hz signal is present.
  • Incorrect image output when Dolby Vision verification mode is being used.
  • Incorrect image output of the iTPG in calibration mode.
  • Security vulnerability that allows privilege escalation via crash logs.

Thanks! I will get it on USB and install after a bit.

I'm working on doing that as we speak. I guess this weekend will be a good time to factory reset the thing again. It's been acting weird during calibration so it's time to start clean. But for this week I want to at least get this firmware installed and play around a bit.

77" C2 would be better.

83" G2 uses different slightly older subpixel structure than this year's smaller G2. Same as this year's 83" C2 and last year's 83" C1. (Described by one professional calibrator as WBE "1.5" vs "2.0" found on the smaller G2.)

As a result the heatsink 83" G2 is not noticably brighter than the non-heatsink 83" C2, and dimmer than the other smaller (heatsink) G2.

Then, both 82" C2 and 83" G2 are not that much better than the 83" C1 from last year. As you may can still find that for thousands less, that's what a lot of people have done. Gotten the 83" C1 instead...

Whereas the 77" C2 has garnered lots of praise for uniformity.
So does this video from Vincent Toeh not apply for the 83"? Basically, the video says the C2 is better in most facets. Or am I misinterpreting what you're saying?

Does anyone have this issue as well?

Initially I thought my first C2 42" had a defective coating on the bottom right where the sticker is.

Lo and behold, the second exchanged unit also has the identical dark spot on the bottom right. Furthermore, (you have to know how to look for this, at the right angle and lighting) the entire right side of the coating is a shade lighter. These are only noticeable with the screen off.

This location is exactly where the red peel-off symbol sticker is, but the bottom left also have the identical sticker, but does not have this mark. Both of the TV I received are the newer WBE Evo panels (verified on service menu).

This is either a recent batch production issue, or it's been an ongoing issue from inception, except nobody have discovered or posted about it until today.

For those who think this is just sticky residue, it's not. I've extensively cleaned it with all possible methods - distilled water, isopropyl alcohol and I've even used the nano-coating Apple polishing cloth and the dark spot is still there. I'm fairly certain that this is underneath the coating.

I'd like to know for those who own a C2, particularly the 42", whether you also have this mark as well. If not, is yours a WBC panel or WBE? And when is the production month/year?

I'm also curious to see if other sizes have this issue as well. Thanks!

So I'm basically coming from a CX and looking at either the C2 or G2. Would the C2 be a significant upgrade over the CX in terms of brightness. Is the C2 and G2 very similar in performance or is the G2 much brighter, or do the charge a premium for the design (an extra $1000 for it here). What is the uniformity like on the 55" G2 or 65" C2?

I Installed the new firmware. Dolby vision Cinema mode is definitely fixed and Dolby vision Precision Rendering is kinda cool, but works much more stable when I watch netflix DV content on my Apple TV 4k 2021. When I test the Mindhunters vertical banding torture scene (season 1, episode 8, 47:20min) it overall looks more washed out via internal netflix app AND there is actually black screen flashing visible. For example right after you see the hanging microphone and then his face.
There is nothing like this via Apple TV 4K and it also does not look washed out to the same degree in comparison.

The difference is actually pretty significant in dark scenes like this.

I didn't watch the whole video, but from I gather everything Vincent is saying should apply to 83C2 vs 83C1. The pixel structure difference that ChazzMatt described chiefly affects brightness, so picture processing benefits of the C2 still apply.

As others have pointed out, the price differences between the 83" models are substantial, so you have to ask yourself if the those differences are worth it. If you are definitely getting an 83" TV, you might want to consult this Deals forum for further discussion:

Yeah that’s quite the update, interested to see it be tested. Minor quibble with the unfixed list would be the BFI one as that’s more of an UI issue that needs fixing, as all the other 2022 WOLEDs don’t have 120hz BFi either unfortunately.

Feel free to open a FAQ or Firmware thread so you don’t have to repeat answers. This is AVS questions will get repeated.
And how will most people find this FAQ thread then? Via the search they already don't use? :p
And you really think they will read a FAQ thread better than any other posts?
That would be a first in all the years I've been on this forum...

Where did you download the update from?
You do know that I posted the link here?

So far, there is no official statement from LG if this problem itself will ever be fixed. It could be that the 120Hz support never comes, then indeed only the bug remains that this option should not even appear with a 120Hz signal. Either way, it is currently a bug.

Have the three boxes at the top disappeared for you too? Worse and worse WebOS, the weather forecast was useful. To me now it looks like this ...

Actually there have been FAQ threads for TVs, you can update them or create a link to your signature👊 Also, the search function isn’t all that great on AVS that I agree with.

Lastly while I see now that you posted a link, I will admit that I don’t really follow you or really know who you are🤔 Remember…some folks don’t always rely on the search function or simply have the time to scroll through pages upon pages of info.
