I'm installing my 46" 1080p Samsung LCD over the fireplace. I just got talked into a $200 monster 1000HD HDMI cable 120Hz. It will be running 25 feet from the TV to the receiver. Can I get away with a less expensive cable without sacrificing the picture? We will be using it for HDTV and BluRay.

Yes. The main thing Monster about their cables is the price. And a 120Hz rating for HDMI cable is rather meaningless since there is no 120Hz HD signal source at present. The 120Hz TVs have the 120Hz processing completely internal to the TV and could not accept a 120Hz signal even if it was available.

Generally 25 feet is not a problem for HDMI. Just buy a category 2 rated cable from a company such as Monoprice or Blue Jeans Cable.

Here is the model # MONMC1000HD25.

How do I know if it's category 2? And what does that mean anyway?

Thanks.

The specification for the cable with state that it's rated for category 2. That means it can carry the higher frequencies without significant degradation that the latest HDMI spec requires for deep color, 1080p, etc.
