26HF85 flickering contrat problem

577 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jemmet
I recently bought the 26HF85 HDTV, and for the most part it is great. However, there is one problem. What is happening is it seems to be contrasting too much, like if the scene on the TV changes from lighter to darker, the screen will flicker as it changes its contrast to adjust to everything else that is now onscreen. This is not something that can be fixed by adjusting my contrast, because it happens when the contrast is turned all the way down, and all the way up. This is very annoying because it is so distracting, and ruins much of the experience and picture quality. It just seems that it is contrasting too much or too quickly, whenever something different in color appears on screen, the color of everything else changes. So for example, if the screen is panning around a snow covered mountain that is completely bare, and then a tree appears, all of the snow will change in color because it is now contrasted against the darker tree. Again, changing my contrast level does not fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Provide a little more information. Are you seeing this on both standard definition and high definition broadcasts? What devices are connected to the set and how are they connected (HDMI, Colorstream component, S-video, or composite)?

If you are seeing this happen only on HD source material and the device is sending a 1080i signal to the set, try switching the device to send a 720p signal to the set and see if that helps.

Sounds like a power supply issue, particularly if you are seeing it through multiple inputs and using different signal sources. If so, user and service menu settings will not resolve and you should either return the set or get it serviced.

i agree that you are gonna end up either returning it or getting it serviced so i wouldnt worry too much about what you think the problem is because you wont be able to fix it you're gonna have to bring someone else in.
Ya, well it may be a pwer supply thing, but as far as I've seen, it only happens on HD content. It doesnt happen on my SDTV cable channels. It does occur on my HDTV cable channels, and my xbox 360/xbox games. All 3 of which were connected through colorstream component cables.
I also just got a 26hf85 and love how it looks in sd mode but it seems to have the same contrast picture flicker/colapse that you have mentioned. Have you taken it in to be serviced yet? I am just wondering if I am going to go the same route.

I work in the broadcast industry and looking at it is driving me crazy. I have used various test patterns to adjust setup and while sd looks great, hd flickers and colapses on very contrasty images. Please let me know what you have found out.
