Here are the things I need to have:

Must be 27" or higher

It can not be more than 20" deep, the slimmer the better

Would like to have good HD capability in it (whatever budget allows)

What should I get. I am maxing out at about $600-$700 out of pocket on this "project". Any suggestions?

Take a look at the Zenith C27V22 (now discontinued) or C27V28. I've got the V22 and am very happy with it overall. It was under $700. There is also a C27V36 that has DVI and component inputs as opposed to the V22's analog RGB and component inputs.

I see Best Buy has the Advent 27" HDTV set on sale this week for $450 and its depth is 20-1/8".

The Samsung 27" HDTV set is $700 but its depth is 22-1/8".

The Zenith 27" HDTV set model C27V36 at Circuit City is $650 with a depth of 20.4".

I'm also in the market for a 27" inch. I assume the 26" hdtv samsung which has been mentioned above is the TXN2670WHF which is 21.8" deep. This is too deep for me. But I saw the TXN2734 which is 19.1" Deep (which works for me) and has DVD component inputs. Any opinions on the 2734?

My brother bought the 27" Advent at Best Buy on Thursday night for $400 plus tax. They are having a $50 off sell if you pay cash.

He is planning to watch only standard cable on the set, so the fact that it scans 1080I is no big deal to him.

He likes progressive scanned SDTV.

There was a couple of reports of quality control issues with the advent in that megathread.

You can get the samsung for $550

if next year's model of samsung has DVI, I think you will see that this set will become a MAJOR craze in this forum.
