2ch Amp for Music Under $500

1722 Views 21 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  afrogt
Seeking at 2 ch amp for 2.1 music setup. Driving the Polk LSiM703s for now.

Probably something in the 100 to 200 wpc, for under $500.

New, used, refurb..what are your top 3 choices?

I too am curious as to the responses. I'm running elac uni-fi ub5s. Heard good things about the Emotiva basx a-300 and the Behringers. Anything else out there for under $500?
the Crown amps provide plenty of headroom for your speakers, can handle 2-4-8 ohm loads, run cool have both xlr and rca inputs whats not to like

I run a Behringer amp for my subs in the "man cave". Love them, can't beat these Crown/Behringer amps for price/performance.

However, for a living room setup; these looks too DJ/professional ish. I prefer something that's aesthetically pleasing and blend in well with the receiver and other devices.

Also hear good things about the Emo amps as well. They look compact, affordable, nice, and has solid SQ. Perhaps Parasound, but that's probably out of the budget; even used.
I've seen quite a few used Adcom's on ebay, specifically the GFA 555, GFA 545, and the GFA535. I read online that they are solid amps, but those reviews are between 10 and 20 years old.
Consider getting something used. Amps generally have good reliability, and a very long life. Audiogon, or EBay are good starting points

Yeah....I read solid reviews on Adcom too but those are too damn old.
The older HK stereo receivers were excellent, but you can only find them used.

I had a vintage HK stereo amp with my Klipsch Cornwalls some years back. Awesome amp.

But I need HDMI these days, along with Bluetooth and wifi for the various devices.

I am looking for external power amp.
I think I am down to these 2 choices in the used market, what are the other alternatives?

Emotiva A-300
Emotiva XPA-2
Anyone have experiences with the Parasound 2125v.2?

Strange, can't find any discussions or reviews of the STA200 on these forums.

Tow good choices... I'd get the XPA-2 if you can swing it. Much better amplifier.
