I am planning towards redoing a media room in a home I just purchased, the current room is 15x18 standard builder media room (ie - no sound insulation). I fully intend to rip out the sheetrock and decouple 5 of the surfaces of the room using clips/channels. I cannot however figure out anything to do with the floor as I do not want to add subfloor layers and create an awkward transition from the hallway.

So to my question, would building a riser/stage (8-10" high) and using rubber mat to decouple, insulation and some sand (under subs) provide adequate sound isolation if I also use a heavy rubber mat under the carpet? If I can effectively reduce the actual vibration energy from propagating through the framework then I just have to stop the sound itself right?
