Hi folks,

I'm about to buy a new/used sub amp for my pair of MicroWrecker tapped horns (fitted with the B&C 15TBX100 8 ohms), and presently I'm considering either two new Crown XLS 1502's for bridged mode use, or a used Crown K2. Where I live the price for either option is about similar.

I'd appreciate opinions on what option (or others) to go with here. The K2 is said to be a very capable sub amp, be they're getting old-ish, and I worry about reliability with further years of use which may/may not be an issue. The XLS 1502 seems to be a popular amp, be it's cheap - not that it may be an issue with sub duties only. With two of them in bridged mode I assume they're about as powerful as a single K2, but even so - do they deliver bass in a similar fashion?

It's very important the chosen amp is silent with no fan noise (the XLS 1502 use fans, but they're said to be very quiet unless being run at full chat).

Please chime in.

/Mikael

@rezag have you considered an inuke 1k or 3k? The Crown has good power and is very quiet but the behringer is supposed to have better dsp if you need it? You can break the warranty and mod the fan if you need it quieter?

I own none of those so just my $.02

I have considered inuke's by Behringer, yes, now called the NX-series, if I'm not incorrect, but their fans need to be replaced or rpm-lowered, which I'm not comfortable with - mostly of the concern that it can't be done properly.

I have a Xilica XP-3060 DSP, so no need for that build into the amp :)

Any other amps you'd recommend?

@rezag I too am looking for a sub amp and what I have read is that Behringer is best for novice guys like me who need dsp and a simple but complicated xlr to blah blah input. I am still trying to wrap my brain around the connections.

I have only seen these other two mentioned, QSC and Crown. The xls 1502 seems to have good numbers from this guy who likes to crucify electronics, like he did with the Pioneer vsx-lx303 receiver.
