So, a pair of Canon SX50's will run about $8K on the street according to the ever popular Canon LCoS thread. This got me to thinking and I started brainstorming about sitting these units on their sides and having a movie content rotated 90ºCW (or CCW) and then split in half with each respective half being sent to a one of two SX50 LCoS projectors.

At 2100 by 1400 this would make for a po-folk's 1080P setup. Only problems are:

Interfacing line (two Crystalio's?) at panel joint.

Image rotation and split process.

I'm not the man with the money. That's Alan's deal. Come'on Alan, this could be an AVS special if it works. :)

You know, if they can align three 1" 1080P panels why can't we align two side-by-side panels to produce a uniform latent image to feed in three pairs into the diachroic combiner block?

Multiple pj setups have been discussed multiple times, including recently.

Depending on the lamp orientation, sideways might not work. It would have to rotate about a line through the electrodes on the ends.

Noah, I didn't think about the lamp orientation aspect. Good point.

Tryg, I know this topic has been covered many times before, but at 90º? Also, what about my second sub-topic which was for two panels aligned with one chasis? Makes for some interesting POP.

Ferret even if you can do it (doubtful) achieving more than 1080p resolution, it'll still be a 1000:1 CR projector... at best!

Yawn.

Call me back if you can do this with a 5k+:1 projector for cheap.

You mean reason against insanity?

If so, then yes. ;)

A couple years ago in one of those threads I suggested 3 cheap XGA's, sideways, to give 2304x1024.

Noah, did they call you mad? Tryg, POP = Picture Outside [of] Picture, which is the opposite of PIP (Picture In Picture).

maybe you should rotate them 45 degrees and compete with TI's xHD3.

Or better yet, why not just use one 1050x1400 panel and claim its effective resolution is twice that.

3 HS51s for 2160x1280 at a rating of 6000:1 on/off CR would be interesting. However, if it were easy I think somebody would have done it a while ago. It isn't like there hasn't been a desire. I would still like to see what 2 HS51s on top of each other would look like. I'm thinking one focused sharply and one defocused just a hair, but I would have to try it to see what looked best. I just got a 2 output DVI distribution amp today, but I don't know if it will drive 2 things at the same time. And I'm definitely not buying 2 HS51s.

I think taking a 1400x1050 display and stacking them sideways is "solving" one of the things they are already pretty strong in, as you pretty much said.

Damn Darin, you just gave me an idea. :) Three diachromic combiner blocks feeding their 1/3 RGB latent image into a forth diachroic combiner block! LOL
