From Tom Tykwer (known for Run Lola Run, The International, and the upcoming Cloud Atlas), comes a new relational drama with a twist.

Saw this at the Toronto Film Festival a year ago. Honestly, I didn't expect that it would get a North American distributor at all. Not that it's "bad" or anything, but it's a hard sell for this market. The film is very arty and pretentious (as you'd expect from Tom Tykwer), and also has quite graphic sex of both the hetero- and homosexual varieties, which people on this continent get pretty uptight about. One very gory scene where a character has testicular surgery, shown in unflinching detail, will likely drive many audiences right out of the theaters.


Unless some of that stuff is cut (which may be possible), the film will certainly be hit with an NC-17.
