Hi. I just got a 30k. I hooked it up with component cables to my plasma, and tried watching fight club. Even though everything was set on 16:9 widescreen, I still got a letterbox effect on the screen, with black bars above and below the movie. I would rather it took up the entire plasma, so I do not need to think about burn-in and stuff like that. Does anyone know whether and how this problem can be solved?

Hi Nick


Fight Club was filmed at 2.35:1 aspect ratio whereas your Plasma Screen is more like 1.85:1.


This means that you will get black bars at the top and bottom of your screen.


There should be a mode on your Plasma Screen for either zooming the picture in or stretching it to fit the screen.


But in either case you will not be watching the movie in the aspect ratio that it was originally screened in the theater.


I wouldn't have thought that watching a movie, at normal contrast and brightness settings, with black bars showing should cause any burn in problems.

Most displays cannot alter the aspect ratio of an HD signal. If your plasma is set correctly, you will not need to worry about burn-in when watching 2.35:1 movies.
