my tosh 34hf81 is finally getting its warrantied tube replaced (some may remember the issues i had - probably a defective shadow mask, as my unit was a floor model)...

so while its in the shop, i have a curiousity.

besides the DVI and basic changes to the remote, and 720p processing, etc. is the Toshiba 34hf81 (previous year's model) more similar to the 34HDX82 or the 34HD82 of this year?

I am curious because i hear of this 'wideband ampflier' in the 34hdx82. Isn't the bandwidth requirements of HD pretty fixed ? ie. 33.75khz pixel refresh on 1080i/etc..etc.... What does this actually do? how does this compare to whats in my 34hf81?

What would be the picture difference between the 34hf81 and the 34hdx82? I have an rca dtc100 to my 34hf81 and am very satisfied with HD broadcasts.

Ps - i looked on toshiba's website.

they mention the 34hf81 has a 'wideband video amplifier'.

the 34hd82 makes no mention of any amplifier and:

34hdx82 has a 'SUPER wideband video amplifier'.

SUPER is a marketing word. so is the amplifier in 34hdx82=34hf81? Maybe.

Besides dvi features on the hd82, that would place the ranking of features for toshiba's like this:

34hdx82 = SUPER, the best obviously. ;-)

34hf81, second best, if DVI isn't important

34hd82 = just unamplified. and not so SUPER.

I believe the 34HF81 is in between the two models as you list, except for the DVI and 720p support of course which is available on both of the new models only. The remote of the 34HF81 is like the 34HDX82, the HD82 had a simpler remote. I belive the HDX82's video amplifier is wider bandwidth than the HF81's but whether you can see the difference is another matter.
