I am wondering about viewing DVDs (panasonic rp-62) on my Sony 34XBR800. When I view any DVD, I have to put the TV in the "Full" wide mode in order to get 16x9 format. The manual says that the wide modes are for 4x3 sources only, so I was expecting to have to use "Normal" mode for 16x9 format DVDs. Is it normal that I should have to use the wide mode with DVDs? I also noticed that HD broadcasts default to "Full" mode. Does this mean that "Full" mode should be the default for viewing DVDs?

I'm not familiar with the RP-62, so you might want to make some inquiries re it in the DVD forum. However, generally speaking, if a DVD is anamorphic or "enhanced for 16:9 TVs", then it's designed for a 16:9 TV like the 34xbr800, and you use the Full aspect ratio setting on the TV to make it fill the entire screen.

The other aspect ratio settings on the TV (Normal, Zoom, Wide Zoom) are for 4:3 (non-anamorphic) content.
