I'm changing my batteries in that thing every week and a half! I never thought I would be paying a weekly battery fee for the 3805 receiver!!!!!!! Any one else having to change their batteries this often? The sign indicating batteries going dead are general dimness and complete loss of the "Source On" and "Source Off" buttons along with the outside box.

Many owners (including me) have exchanged their original remotes that had this problem for new ones. Most that did this seem to be satisfied with their battery life now. The best solution IMO is to get a true universal remote with macro capability to automatically select correct inputs and surround functions depending on which source you wish to control, then the Denon's short battery life will cease to be an issue.

Yes and yes - there has been much discussion on this in other threads, and that seems to be the consensus. I exchanged mine after about three weeks, at which time it had already gone through one set of batteries, and then it stopped working correctly even after fresh batteries were installed. I still have that set of batteries in it (now about 4 months) and they are fine, but during the last two months the Denon remote hasn't been used very much as I've gone to a Harmony 659 for everyday use (highly recommended).

yep...i agree. I had not only the problem of battery life, but also the surround mode problem. SO i sent back my bad remote for a new one. I didn't pay attention that the face cover now is blue, not black...anyway, i am happy with the new one,.

I just purchased the 3805, so is the blue face cover remote the one w/ better battery life?

mine has a blue cover and I have to change the batteries a lot. I've noticed that it sometimes "forgets" the commands I teach it too. I wonder if the battery life increase that some are seeing isn't merely a result of people using it less or getting used to it so it isn't lit up all the time while you are looking for something. I've noticed that just adding 2 new batteries gives it the same lifetime as adding 4 new ones. weird
