I have a Dell XPS 7100 with a ATI Radeon HD 5780 graphics card. The graphics card has an hdmi and dvi out as well as an additional output that looks similar to an hdmi. I currently run the video thought an hdmi cable directly to my Samsung tv and the audio through an optical cable to my av receiver. I do this because my Onkyo TX-SR607 av receiver won't pass through 3D content so I run the 3D content directly to the tv. The problem is that I'd like HD audio and even if I bitstream I don't get it with the optical cable. My idea is to run the video directly to the tv through the DVI and the audio directly to the av receiver through the hdmi. I have a few questions:
1 Will splitting the signal have any consequences like reduced video/audio quality?
2 Will it increase the operating temperature of my GPU?
3 Is there a better way to get 3D content to the tv and HD audio to the av receiver without buying a new one?
Thanks!!
