Just returned my 30 inch Sony and got the 51 inch Hitachi (arrives tomorrow - on sale at CC for $1429). I've always owned Sony so I assumed Hitachi wouold have 3d digital comb. But I don't think it does. Will the pic look worse without this feature?

As I understand it, it depends how you're feeding the signal to the set. In the normal case, the comb filter should only be used when separating the chroma information from the luma information. If you are providing the set input strictly via DVI, Component, S-Video, then these components of the signal should already be separated, in which case the comb filter shouldn't enter into the equation.

Not unless you use it to watch analog cable or OTA signal or hook up a regular VHS VCR to the TV.

If the set has a digital tuner for HD OTA or Cable, the tuner will bypass teh comb filter. If you hookup any external video source (e.g DVD Player, Cable box, HD tuner) and use at least an S-Video connection (component or DVI is better), the comb filter will be bypased.

HD PQ is never affected by the comb filter since HD signals require at least a component connection.
