I know there are lots of different 3D formats.

I am wondering if any can run on my existing home theatre equipment?

And what DVDs (Region 4) are available?


My projector is a Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB (aka EMP-TW2000)

My player is a Panasonic DMP-BD35

My AVR is an Onkyo TX-SR805

First there is no DVD spec for 3D and you can only get Anaglyph (red-cyan glasses) types of 3D. Only BD's have a 3D spec.


Also it looks like none of your equipment is 3D ready.


So you are limited to Anaglyph (red-cyan glasses) type of 3D.

Your only option is anaglph as the last poster stated. You either need to buy anaglph DVD's or if you have access to side by side half 3D the monoprice 3D converter will output anaglph for you. You will need a source to feed it the side by side material.

There are two threads with hundreds of posts about the VIP displayer & Theater products and the consensus is that they work with most 1080p 60hz projectors just fine. In fact, I believe someone has tested the good ol' 1080UB with satisfactory results. And I could've sworn that mkoss has posted in at least one of those threads!

OP, you will need to upgrade to a 3D capable Blu-ray player to play 3D Blu-ray discs, but the rest of your equipment can be "upgraded" to display 3D, albiet at an inferior 60hz rather than 120hz. The 3D effect is just as pronounced, but flicker will be more distracting than on a 3D ready display. Since your receiver is not HDMI1.4, the VIP-3D product would need to be placed before your receiver, which is not ideal due to the additional delays that can be caused by video processing in the receiver.

That's some terrific gear.

I'm not too sure what the difference is between the Displayer and the Theatre. Have to read up a bit more.

Could suit me as I don't particularly want to change my projector or AVR at the moment (would cause extreme hardship in the home

).

Does this VIP product work with LCD TV's too? How does it compare to just buying a new 3D TV? Will it work with most 3D devices (PS3 for 3D blu-ray and 3D games, X360, Cable Box, Computer)?

I'd suggest adding an ultra short throw 720p 3D Ready projector and adapter to what you already have.


I tried 30hz per eye 3D not to long ago. I would not be happy with it.

Yeh, I don't know if I would notice the flicker or not.

Thanks John, i've definately decided against getting this device. the top unit (3D theater) would be over $650 after the unit, glasses and adapter for glasses. I've had my current TV 2 1/2 yrs and would honestly rather spend $2000 and get the 3D from normal 3d content, plus 2d to 3d conversion and a much better regular 2d picture than my current TV. Actually you can get a good TV that's under 2000 that does all that, i believe the Panny P55GT30 is a good example. Anyhow, this may be better suited for people that haven't had their TV that long, or bought it just before the 3D craze. Maybe if it was cheaper, right now it just gets thrown in the mix with the rest of the stuff that is making 3D too expensive still.

Personally I think it's worth waiting until there is a lot more quality content available before moving into 3D in a big way i.e new projector, new AV receiver, new player, etc.

Also Icester's comments in this thread make very interesting reading.
